Can we have a very serious saddle thread on here?  Maybe one pinned to the top?  Where people with knowledge and possibly even some saddle makers could come on here and offer information?  Too many times there are people with sore horses who do not know where else to turn to get information and learn.  Many times people are only stressing to them the gullet width when in fact they need to consider other factors as well such as bar shape and tree shape and width.  I know everybody kept telling me to go wider and wider with my horse and it turned out to be a huge mistake.  He didn't need wider as much as the right bars and tree.

i don't want this to be a thread of arguing and bickering, but I would like to see people talk about different trees, bars, gullets, reasons why, and brands that offer certain things.

I would like to see this as a thread also.
And lets keep it about facts about fitting and not about brands.

Great idea Missroselee.  We used to get Pro barrel racers come on here every once in a while to answer our questions why can't we get rep's from some of the saddle companies?  Caldwell, Martin, Cactus, Coats.......That would be an awesome help to so many and then put it in one thread at the top so we don't have to go searching.

Me too, something else I would like is a database of sizes including tree's and their measurements, for me, the leg opening on saddles for example I know a sharon camarillo #38 tree is a SQHB and that a 15' has a leg opening of 11 inches (from swells to cantle)  I really want to try a pozzi and a mary walker saddle but of course, no one has one in a 15 or 15.5 with out me special ordering.  I know what fits me and would like to buy used if at all possible.  Some companies have really good information on their websites and others not so much.  So if any of you have a 15 inch pozzi or mary walker saddle will you measure the distance between the swell and the cantle for me ?  :)

We need to discuss brands though so people know what each brand offers. We just need to keep the discussions neutral and fact based.

And then when you finally get it right after going thru 3764597345 saddles, they grow/fill out/get fitter/lose weight and you have to start all over again, lol.

See, you guys are proving my point why we need a good educational thread! Every horse will be different but I think it would be great to put as much information as possible in one place so people can look at it and maybe find what works for their horse. I think we need to include how muscle tone and training techniques affect a horses back. And also talk about saddle pads and the effectiveness of shimming.

wimpyB is a saddle fitting expert and does it for a living. She has helped me the most when I get in a saddle fitting bind. She helped me fix 2 horses with proper saddle fitting.

Well I've asked several knowledgable people to come here and help out but they turned me down because of the reputation for drama here.  I'm thinking of starting a Facebook page where we can post, ask questions, share links, and maybe get more people involved.  But then I hate feeling like I'm excluding the people who don't have Facebook.

That's an oxymoron as if Facebook doesn't have drama!
I find it to be the #1 in drama, soap opera and TMI! LOL

That's too bad but I also say the main reason I stay off FB is the drama.  There used to be an old guy around here that ran a saddle shop.  He carried good qualilty saddles and tack and knew a lot about saddle fit.  It didn't matter if someone pulled in his yard with a trailer full of horses and saddles that they had bought somewhere else or won, he'd take the time to fit your horses and let you know what was working and what wasn't.  He passed on a few years ago to cancer.  I sure miss him.
