Started my new life Nov. 3 2013! I wanted to get as fit and in shape and I wanted to start a new lifestyle of exercising 5/6x a week and making sure it will continue to be apart of my life. I joined aerobics, which I love and great group of folks. I also enjoy the treadmill and weight lifting.

Well, as I started my new work out and lifestyle (not calling it a diet)... I was doing really well. January came around and I hadn't lost a pound. I was a little upset, but said well oh well, if it takes me 2 yrs to reach my goal, then ok. I decided to go to my doctor, because I was working with a trainer weekly and couldn't believe I hadn't lost atleast 20#. My doctor got me on a new calorie program and also metobolism boosters. It has officially been a month since I started that with him and as of today, I have officially lost 15#!!! That is with clean eating, low calorie, high protein, lots of water and cardio/weight lifting 6x a week, plus the metoblism booster. I am so excited and hope to loose another 15# before I start running in April.

My goal is to become strong and fit. Weight is just a number, and muscle weighs more then fat, so a certain weight isn't a my concern. Just a little victory post! It feels good to see results! I am not super heavy person and still run 1D/2D times at big races, but my current main horse is hard to ride, you really have to jockey her and stay forward and I felt like I wasn't strong enough to keep myself centered and not rely on the horn... so my goal has been to ride her better this year and keep those costly barrels up!! Cheers everyone! Have a great day and thanks for reading my little "brag"

Good for you!!!

I have been going to Zumba 2-3x a week, and I also have decided to start running.  I haven't been a runner, well.... ever!  LOL  I got with some ladies out where I live; they run together every Saturday morning.  They do a 2.2 mile run, and I was so proud, I kept up the whole time!  I don't think I have ever ran that far at one time in my life.  My legs are sore, but I am proud.

Good luck to you!!

Yes, I have cut out bread (like maybe a whole wheat piece like once a month) , no pasta at all (omg) and I've never been a soda drinker, so that wasn't an issue. But yes, cutting out carbs and sugars!

Definitely true for me too! I can lose slowely but steadily by staying under 100 grams of carbs per day. I can lose very quickly staying under 80 grams of carbs per day but I love carbs so its hard for me to stick to staying under 80. It works though! Also, some might argue that this isn't possible but I can eat only 1200 calories per day and either lose no weight or very little! I HAVE to restrict carbs to lose weight without starving myself! Lean protein from tenderloin, grilled chicken breast, and fish are the key to losing weight and NEVER being hungry! All protein is definitely not created equal....protein shakes, protein bars, and greek yogurt just make me fatter and make me crave more carbs. Eating 4 ounces of baked fish, grilled tenderloin, or grilled chicken at every meal will slim you down in a hurry!

I think carbs is the issue in my weight loss not happening. So what are other food you eat besides meat. One thing that's tough for me to give up is fruit which is higher in carbs. I've tried staying under 100 even and find it so hard. I need ideas.

Its hard especially if you're not crazy about meat which I'm definitely not. You don't have to give up fruit at all though....eat blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries! They are low in carbs and high in fiber. I stay away from apples, bananas, grapes, and even grapefruit has a lot carbs. I eat a lot of vegetables but hardly ever eat potatoes and beans or peas or carrots. I snack on sticks of cheese, beef jerky, and the fruit I mentioned. When I'm staying under 80 grams of carbs I mainly eat meat, eggs, and vegetables. Its VERY boring buts its the ONLY way I seem to be able to lose weight without feeling hungry all the time. I didn't mean to hijack this thread at all...I was trying to add to the big congratulations for the OP but accidentally got carried away(sorry about that!).

I'm not the op but I don't mind you high jacking. Off course all te fruits you mentioned are the ones that are hard to find in my neck of the woods this time of year and are super expensive. My go to main snack is peanut butter and apples or grapes. Guess I need to figure something else out. I do like meat and veg but of course green beans are one of my favs. Why no green or carrots or peas? The carb count?

Yes, those berries I mentioned are VERY expensive to buy but fairly easy to grow. I have 12 blueberry bushes, 2 raspberry vines, about 10 blackberry vines, and hundreds of strawberry plants. Oh, and 3 kiwi vines but they are new and haven't gotten any kiwi yet. Strawberries are rediciously easy to grow and cheap to get started too! I know some people swear that peanut butter is a good snack because of the healthy fat but its definitely not a good snack for me. It has 100 calories per tablespoon(and lots of carbs)....how can that be a good snack? Idk, evidently it works for some but definitely not me! Green beans are fine...they don't have many carbs because you are actually eating more of the green part instead of the bean part. I was actually referring to beans like pintos, white beans, kidney beans, ect. Peas have nearly as many carbs as beans so I ditch those too and carrots are a sugar storing root just like potatoes so they are pretty high in carbs too. Now....here's my disclaimer to what I just wrote.....of course beans and peas and carrots and apples and bananas are healthy carbs BUT I find that I MUST limit them to be able to add a little bit of chocolate or a granola bar or something that I REALLY like and still be under my 80 or 100 grams of carbs per day. If I don't allow room in my carb budget for a few sweets every day I get frustrated and feel deprived and give up trying to restrict carbs for a few days. Allowing myself a few carbs that taste REALLY good helps me stay on track!
