Location: Bandera, TX | I rode at the public arena here in town yesterday, and this lady comes by asking to pet my horse. She loves horses but doesn’t have one right now, and needs her horsy fix…. I tell her sure and introduce my very handsome and very sweet gelding to her. Not 20 seconds later she is slobbering allover Boo’s nose. I really had to bite my tongue not to say anything to her. I don’t know, but she might as well just start smooching all over my boy-friend….. I hope Boo doesn’t have cooties now, I almost stuck his head in a bucket of Clorox. Am I the only one who hates that? Petting is one thing, but almost French kissing a strangers horse….?? |

LOL, I have never had that happen but I did have a lady come ask if she could borrow a brush and curry comb. Sure I say, she comes back in a few minutes to return them and saids she left hers at home, she has to wash them everyday because horse has a fungus. I'm like really???? just lay them on the ground, I don't want my horses to get it, I need to disinfect them now. She saids OK, thanks and walks off. |

Location: Minnesota | I would feel the same way. I have no issue with people wanting to come over and pet one of my horses but that may be crossing the line. I get a lot of people that come up to Vinny, my gelding, since he has frost bitten ears. They think he is "so adorable" and just want to pet him. That is completely fine but he's a nervous horse and I had a older child(maybe 12) run up to him once and I actually yelled at her. I felt bad but you just don't do things like that. Just like you don't slobber all over the nose of someone else's horse. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I was at a jackpot last summer with 2 horses. I ran one, cooled down and went back to the trailer to get my gelding. I keep a whisk broom in the brush box on my tack door to keep things tidy. When I got back to my trailer there was an older gentleman using the whisk broom brushing my gelding. My gelding looked at me like - mom what the hell is this guy doing? |

| The only time anyone else has smootched one of my horses was at the State fair. We were up there for the Cowgirl queen contest and the parking lot was about 6-8 blocks from the arena, so we had to ride through the middle of the fair. A group of special needs kids were walking through the area and I had to stop my horse to wait for a traffic jam. One of the special needs kids jumped right in front of my horse, grabbed her face in both hands and planted one square on the nose!
It was a good thing she was used to me doing that!! She didn't even twitch an eyelash!
The leader of the special needs group was appalled and apologetic. I just smiled and said no harm, no foul. I have had several horses that would have thrown their heads and broke the kids nose. Thankful that one time turned out ok! |

Location: Oklahoma | I don't think I'd have a problem with it, but I'd sure hope that mine would stick his tounge out and give them an unexpected kiss back! I know that my two geldings would eat it up, but I'd probably be a little more leary if I had horses that weren't so calm natured. |

Location: Kansas | Guess I'll be the odd one out and say it doesn't bother me.......most people will never have the chance to kiss a horse on the nose and feel what we get to experience on a daily basis.
I even let little munchkins kiss and love all over my mare. I feel they should get the chance to be able to be next to a horse, even if it's just once in their whole life.
Just my 2 cents. |

What bothered me a few summers back, we went out of town, and my dad was feeding the horses for us. His wife and her kids were in town, so they came by with him. He had the nerve to go put a halter on my mare and let the kids ride her around bareback. And this was after repeated times of them asking me if they could ride her, and me saying no. So I guess as long as I'm not around, it's ok? I no longer trust my own dad to feed for us. I feel that a line was crossed. |

I've got a mare that would probably take a stranger's face off if they kissed her nose, just to see how they tasted. LOL She's not mean, but she is a total brat if you haven't gotten her respect. |

Ditto. What problem did this cause - really? My gelding will stick his face out to be kissed. His breeder taught him that as a baby. She is not going to give your horse any disease, why can't you look at it as maybe it brightened her day to show affection to an animal in this way? You are being WAY over dramatic. |

I was thankful it was my gelding standing there and not my mare or she might have gotten stupid over the whisk broom. LOL I wasn't sure if the guy was trying to be funny or if he was seriously brushing my horse. Hmmmm |

Location: Bandera, TX | Well obviously I dind't think he would catch a real disease. That was a joke. And the reason I let her pet my gelding was that he loves attention, the mare would not have taken it so kindly. I love the effect horses can have on anyone - horse person or not, and usually promote people being around horse in any way I can.
Nothing lights up my day more than when my friends handicappped grandson sits on my horse and has the biggest smile on his face. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I think this hangup about people who like to kiss horse's muzzles is funny. I guess I fail to see what's wrong with it. I'd stick to worrying about things that really matter. My son, Jeff, is kinda OCD...everything has to be perfectly clean and neat all the time. I mean this kid has to take aloe vera ass wipes with him wherever he goes. He can't just wipe his ass after pooping...he has to wash it. He's a dog lover and has a springer who loves to lick faces.....so that's an exception. One day I had just finished riding a horse and had just taken off his tack and brushed him down. I gave him a big ole smooch on the muzzle and Jeff says "On the lips? You kiss your horse on the lips??? Jeez dad!" I asked him, "Have you ever smelled a horse with bad breath...ever? You think that's gross, yet your dog licks her ass and vagina and then you let her lick your face?" |

Location: North Dakota | When I was in college YEARS ago I was walking down Bourbon Street in NewOrleans completely drunk. I walked up to the cops that were standing in the street with their horses and planted a big kiss on one of the patrol horses noses. The horse didn't move and the cops just laughed and walked off! I am lucky they found it funny! Now that I look back it was nuts but thats college life! |

| I have one guy who wants to kiss one of our fillies and it drives me nuts only because he isn't a very good guy and I can't stand him as a person. I don't usually mind we have a couple of real love bug mares we haul and if I leave them at the trailer I almost always come back to some little girls hanging out petting and giving kisses. |

I don't care who touches my horses, as long as they ask me for permission. I've had some fruit loops before and hand movements around their eyes/ears would send them nutso.
Us horse people tend to forget that horses are a luxury and that the majority of people may have never even touched one before. |

| Well, I'd have a come to Jesus meeting with my horse! And if he still fools around, we'd have to break up. I wouldn't stand for that!

| On a slightly different vein. When some mentioned French kissing a horse.....
My orphaned colt LOVES to lick. He will lick your face like a dog. Once I inadvertently, apparently had my mouth open near his face and at that moment, he decided to lick me and I GOT TONGUE!!! Ewwwwww!!!!!!!!
I love my ponies but that was just too far.
Edited to add: I bet that would cure the original OP's "problem"
