I was stunned that such a political white house would back the latest military budget cuts, like 71% reduction in subsidies for commissaries.  These commissaries provide discounted groceries to troops and their families.  Is their game plan to put our military on food stamps?

i think every program and entity in our govt should have to come up with a budget, with the same degree of cuts that the pentagon proposed........

Nice concept.  But here is reality.

The Internal Revenue Service spent $4.1 million on a lavish conference in 2010 for 2,609 of its employees in Anaheim, California. Expenses included $50,000 for line-dancing and “Star Trek” parody videos, $135,350 for outside speakers, $64,000 in conference “swag” for the employees, plus free meals, cocktails, and hotel suite upgrades. Their budget has continued to increase every year since.

well.....go to washington and change it.......that logic is no excuse for the massive waste in every program and agency in this country at both the federal and state levels....including the military.......

the reality is what voters make it.......at least for now in this country

When I was growing up the only difference was there was no tax on anything bought on base.

I did "go to Washington".  We elected a congress.  (remember, that's how we do it. It's called representative government.)
Nearly 150 bills in 2013 alone were passed, and were largely about spending cuts.   None were ever brought to the floor of the Senate.

I honestly don't know why our military members serve anymore.....a sense of duty, trying to make a difference, traveling the world, getting out of a one-horse town, etc.........I know why I joined in 1989, but can't say that I would do it now. In fact, I can honestly say that I would not do it now. So much has changed....

Stuff like that went out the door a long time ago.... I'm thinking it came to my attention when a Missouri representative voted against the wishes of the of his people about the Panama Canal when he voted to give it away, and he said he had to vote HIS conscious instead of the conscious of the people that put him in office. It was at that point I realized we had lost control of our government. I've not trusted it since.

They charge a surcharge now and have for a long time at the commissary.  BX and Class 6 still no tax, and that can be huge. Washington state where we live charges no tax on food.

They have to make those cuts, how else are they going to continue to pay for everyone that is getting an assisted living check of some form or another...you know, the ones you see at WalMart with the 5 kids named Precious, Bless, etc, and the 18 year old father hanging on to her back pocket like he might get lost because he got taken away from his X-box for an hour to go get Chips and Soda.
Jaded, me? No way...

My husbands a reservist in the military and I still believe the cuts are needed BUT on the same token, ALL congressmen should be getting pay cuts!!! It's absolutely ridiculous how much they make!!! Limit the presidents excursions as well. Calvin Coolidge could teach Obama a thing or two about being frugal and cutting costs!!!!

our representatives are not there to vote as the masses they represent wish....they are there to vote in the best interests of the country, then their state, then their district
