| I'm headed to a new doctor today to discuss this, but I wanted to see if anyone had some insight from actual experience.
I've had a heck of a time in the last 8 years finding a pill that works well for me - it's either mood swings, anxiety, generally feeling like crap, break through bleeding (not one of them has been without that) etc. So I'm considering Mirana as a longer term solution since we have no desire for children anytime soon.
Does anyone have experience after having a issues with pills like this? Do you notice it affecting your moods at all (after you get use to it for a few months)? Any other insight? |

Location: Charlestown, IN | I got the Mirena after having a child. I loved it at first but then started having complications after about 6 months.. Wound up having it removed and got the Nuva Ring. It has been great for me so far and I'm almost at being on it for 1 year. Prior to Mirena, I was on Ortho Tri Cycline for 10+ years with no complications. |

Location: Kansas | I'm on the mirena, I haven't had any complications at all with it. It hurt initially when it was put in but worth it. My best friend has it as well, she got it right after her 2nd baby. |

| I have the Mirena and have not had kids. The gyno said not at first but then finally after I pestered her enough she did it. It hurt like heck when it was put in but I have had no complications.. |

Location: Texas | I just got Paraguard Jan 2 after 18 yrs on the pill. I truly believed the older I got the more the pill was messing with my head. I am really liking it. I haven't had any kids and the dr and nurse said it might hurt during insertion. I might have felt a millisecond of discomfort but certainly no pain. I got up and went shopping afterwards. I am very satisified to this point and I really believe my mind is much clearer without the hormones. |

Location: MD | I got pregnant on the nuva ring. I had that thing in my arm and constantly stabbed me so I got it taken out. Sorry you're having such a hard time! |

| Thanks! I'm leaning towards the uterine devices. I'm phobic of needles (to the point I *can* give my horse a shot if I have to, but if someone else will do it that I trust, go for it) so there's no way I'm letting them out someing in my arm! No way jose! |

Location: North Dakota | Mirena damaged my uterus and my body went crazy with issues. It took several years for me to recover from the damage it caused. I know pills make women gain weight and feel sick and crabby but some of the stuff they insert is far worse!! |

| I've had my Paraguard (hormone free! YAY!) for four years now. I love it! No weight gain. No babies. No problems. So getting another put right back in when this one hits it's last day. |

Location: up to my waist in you know what | After my 2 kids I got the mirena and just had to replace it yesterday since it's been 5 years since I initially got it. I love not having to worry about taking a pill at the same time everyday and some of them made me cray cray! lol I've never had issues with it, I still have a period but it's very light and usually just a couple days long. I highly recommend it but have heard some horror stories from it, as long as you are willing to take the risk of possibly becoming infertile and never having children then I would go for it....there is always a possibility something will go wrong when having anything implanted in your body.... Good luck in whatever you decide is best for you. |

| Im have paraguard. I plan to switch over to Mirena. If you already have a heavy period then the Mirena is the best option. The paraguard is too much for me, the cramping kills me every month. Besides the cramping for a few days I love this BC because you dont have to think about taking the pill. |

Location: Oklahoma | I have the implanon. Got my original January 2009, lasted 3 years and had the second one put in January 2012. Now I initially LOVED it... but now I'm going on over a month of spotting and having to wear a tampon. I need to make an appointment to get it taken out, but my health insurance is not effective yet. I don't know what I will use instead. My husband and I have talked about trying for another baby, but we'll have to see. I was on Ortho Tri-cyclin Lo for many years and never had a problem. I did not go the Mirena route due to my OBGYN telling me I'd hurt her if she tried to put it in because my cervix was too tight. |

| After years of being sick on the pill and nuvaring, I will NEVER take birth control again.
I was an emotional mess, didn't feel right at all and gained over 40 pounds. Even after stopping BC last September, I still don't feel right. I feel better, but not like I did before BC. I'm not as emotional but I still haven't lost the weight I gained. Really frustrating. |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | I spent 18 years on birth control. Gave my body some breaks in there when I could. Never never again. I don't care if hubby has to use protection or end up with a vasectomy. It's just no longer worth the side affects. But then I'm a little over a week away from surgery to remove a damaged ovary among other things. I will say that the implanon was my favorite |

| Thanks guys.
At this point we don't know about kids, but we're only in our 20's so we don't want to pursue anything too permanent. My issues with the pill need to stop though and it's getting really old.
I'll have to find out more about the paragard being non hormonal, that might be the best choice overall maybe |

Location: Louisiana | I have also tried several different pills, some being worse than others. After finally seeing a doctor who believed me when I told him how crazy they made me, he had me try the Nuvaring, which made me psychotic also. He explained that I probably wouldn't be able to take any hormones, some people just can't.
And I'm not talking mood swings, I was crazy and often felt out of control. It affected my relationship and even my riding-I had so much anxiety.
I decided to go the natural way for now. Going on a year without any pills, rings, etc and I feel amazing. |

Location: Phoenix | Look into Ortho-Evra!! It's the patch.
I tried pills and those didn't work. If I took them 1 hour late I was spotting again. Tried the Nuva-Ring....it got pulled out after activity one time and so for a month after that I was checking everyday that to make sure it was still there and the suspense of potentially not feeling it was just too much.
So I opted for the patch. And I love it. It goes on my butt, it doesn't fall off, I can SEE that it's there, ANNNND I only have to change it once a week. #winning
Can't say much on the mood swings. I've always been nicer and LESS moody on birth control. |

| I have the Paragaard (after 2 kids) and I love it. Some cramping, but not life-altering cramps. A word of advice: if you're going to research Paragaard, you'll find 99% bad reviews and horror stories. Yes, it happens, but I think those who like Paragaard and have little problems don't bother writing the online reviews. I did my research before getting it, and almost talked myself out of it due to the horror stories - SO glad I didn't! |
