| So let's say I bought a horse for somebody, they were supposed to pay me back in payments. ( I was nice enough to do this) Then the horse gets injured on their property and dropped off at my house WITH the vet bill for me to pay for. How would you look at this? Would they be responsible for the vet bill? even if the horse did heal and I traded for a nice horse? The vet bill was close to $400 and I also had to have another vet come out to look at it for a second time at nearly $200. I understand I'm responsible for the 2nd one because it was my decision to have the horse looked at again to be sure it was healing correctly. I just feel that the accident didn't happen on my property and how can you expect to drop a horse off and injured and not be responsible for it. weather she wanted to return the horse or not, because it was injured and decided they didn't like it after all. I am wrong to consider asking for the vet bill to be paid or at the very least mentioning it didn't make me feel to great, or that I thought it was wrong? I didn't want the horse back, but at that point no payments had been made, it was my money in the horse. Feel free to add your own opinion just trying to get opinion if I am wrong on this. |

| just wanted to add when I mentioned this to the person she went off the handle and called me greedy POS.. and everything under the sun. Said everything is always about me.. took some very low hits.. about my family about my intelligence. Said I got a good deal on the horse and I ripped off the other person who I traded with, ( she sold the horse for 4k and I would ask the same for the horse I traded for) and said my marriage wasn't going to last. Just insulted everything about my life. Just hurt I tried to help someone get a horse for her youth rider.. and this is what happened. I wanted them to have a finished horse.

| She should pay the vet bill. Add it in to the cost of the horse. |

Location: ND | Well.....I'm sure it's a lesson learned on your part. But I would NEVER buy a horse for someone else and allow the horse off my property until they had paid me in FULL for the horse. There would have been a contract spelling out all details of the deal as well. You have to protect yourself, nobody else is going to. Yes, she should have paid the vet bill but I don't see that happening considering she dumped the injured horse back in your care. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Unfortunately Lesson Learned. No Good Need Goes Unpunished. Hopefully the horse will recover fully and you can sell him outright to a worthy owner. The loser that took advantage of your good nature just needs to be asked to take it down the road and never set foot on your property again. Be glad they showed their true colors and you are good to be rid of them. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Just write off that friendship and looks like you have a horse that has a vet bill that needs to be payed off, if it was me I would just pay the bill, theres really not much you can do about getting her to pay the bill. Sorry that she hurt your feelings but she is not a friend. |

| That's why you sign contracts with all parties and the details of who is responsible for what should various things happen. These kind of deals are famous for killing what would otherwise be long term friendships.

| No I paid it and have traded the horse for another, and yes I still made good on the deal BUT does that mean I'm greedy? I just don't feel it should have been my responsibility. She mentioned today about going and buying TWO other horses, and I asked her what about that vet bill and the SHTF and insults started. ETA business is business regardless of friendship, horses cost money. ETA THEN when I still had this horse injured she was at a race trying another horse AND asked me for money for that one! I went to my friends and said I feel so bad.. but ugh I cant do this again.. I still have the first one! train stopped there!

Sorry, but as the owner of the horse, YOU are "on the hook" for the vet bill. Should she pay it....probably .....but don't hold your breath because it isn't going to happen. |

Location: Somewhere in the middle of nowhere | I may be the odd one or please clarify but how are you responsible for a vet bill that is in some else's name? When I take an animal in to the vet or he comes out, the vet bill is made out to me and is due upon completion of services rendered.....at least around here it is. |

NO... it was pure evil the things she was saying to me. I will never speak to her again, you'd think if someone was willing to do that for you, you could talk it out or SOMETHING civil or try to understand were I was coming from. She said my dad was trash.. and just all kinds of low jabs you couldn't imagine. |

Location: College Station, TX | You weren't the one who took the horse to the vet initially, correct? So that bill is in their name? Would the vet not go after them for payment rather than you? I don't see how you have any responsibility for that bill. |

Location: Oklahoma | This is absolutely ridiculous. That person is awful. I just dont have the words for it (atleast not words that I can respectively post on here) It makes me so mad to hear this. People cant be trusted anymore. What happened to the time when a persons word and handshake was as good as a contract? She should definitely have been responsible for the vet bill and more! you did this as a FAVOR for her and she had no respect. SMH |

Location: Arkansas | You did the right thing in trying to help her out with the horse in the first place (just making payments) but any decent person would have seen the injury as their fault, and thus take care of it. You can't take anyones word anymore, and friend or no friend, you have to protect yourself in these situations with written agreements. I wouldn't have paid the vet bill... That's just wrong the way she treated you... PLUS bashing you and your family?? Oh that don't fly sister, I would've been all too tempted to let my fists do the talking at that point... |
