What are some good Oklahoma Stallions?  I was told that if you live in oklahoma and you want to race oklahoma races you need to breed to a stallion from oklahoma is that true? I have my mare in the oklahoma racing association so the babies she has can run in the oklahoma races but I was not sure if they have to be bred with oklahoma stallions also to be eligiable for it.

Go to OQHRA.com web site. They can answer your questions. In Louisiana TB program you can go out of state every other year. Mare has to stay in La. except during time of being bred/declared in foal, etc. Most states allow breeding this way in order to get to quality studs in other states, but don't know about Ok.

The Okla Bred program... mare has to be paid into the Oklahoma Broodmare Progam once in her lifetime and remain in Okla thru foaling.

Foal must be foaled in Okla then paid into the Okla Bred racing program in order to run in the Okla Bred races ... if not a full field then a non Okie Bred can enter but not receive any of the additional added Okie Bred money in the race.

You can breed to outside the state qh or tb stallions every other year but mare must reside and foal in Okla ...

OKLAHOMA RACING COMMISSION is in control of this program ....
here are the rules and fees etc etc ...

I believe it's either every other year or once every 3 years that you have to breed to a stud that stands in OK. I'm leaning more towards once every 3. I will have to ask.

As far as "good" Oklahoma stallions, it all depends on your budget. The link above is a good place to start. There are the big breeding farms like, Lazy E Ranch, Belle Mere, Royal Vista, JEH, James Ranch, etc. that always have high quality stallions.

For info on the OK Bred program: http://www.ohrc.org/okb.html
