I did hear them announce that Jerry Jones bought 10,000 tickets for the military to attend but that they were not allowed to come (by their Commander) because of the weather. |

Location: Central Texas | I am curious too. We were there and I thought it was a good turnout. Our tickets were $40 each. They seemed to range from $35 to $110, but in one article I read they were saying $200. |

| I am sure some of the varying prices are due to some folks buying for the entire weekend, or buying from someone who sold them for more than the original price.
Justin McKee announced that Hawaii was the only state not represented in the purchase of tickets. That is pretty impressive! Lots of folks had tickets and couldn't make it due to weather as well. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | When we are talking about say 40,000 attendees at $50-200 per ticket, then I would say that this Rodeo made a huge stride toward bringing Rodeo to a level that is long overdue. I hope this is the beginning of an explosion in popularity of rodeo.
We had a lot of discussion about this back in December, and a lot of people agreed this is the sort of thing that rodeo needs. It's a pretty exciting format, and the location was fantastic.
I don't think this will take anything away from the NFR either...in fact, I bet it will serve to spotlight it even more. I was glued to the TV all afternoon yesterday, no different than a good football or baseball game. |

I can see this concept as the "Nascar" of rodeo....FINALLY, a concept that will put REAL money in the pockets of the contestants. Plus they were all given lots of "treats" (boots, hats, etc) and the winners got, at least, another $15-20K in prizes (Saddle, Buckle, ATV, etc). And they only had six months to bring this rodeo to fruition....that was a pretty good feat! |

Location: Texas | I know of 6 people that had tickets but didn't go because of the weather. I was actually shocked that these people even got tickets and planned on going, they only go to rodeos every now and then when they are in town. They have never once mentioned the NFR but were super excited about the American. I think there was a lot of interest from people that usually don't care one way or the other about what happens.
Even my grandpa (who is an old cowboy but not really interested in rodeos), he called every 15 minutes to see what was happening because he hadn't made it home in time to watch the beginning of it. He even knew some of the barrel racers that were running in Mesquite and a little about them. Which was really odd considering he is not a fan of barrel racing by any stretch of the imagination. He had money on a few of the girls, but if you asked him what the NFR was he wouldn't have a clue. |

Location: Southern OK aka God's Country | We sat right behind the calf roping boxes, 4 rows up for $150 each. I did a panoramic with my phone, thought it turned out neat!

I thought I had heard one of the announcers say that 2,000 couldn't come because of the reason stated. I might be mistaken on that though. I did see quite a few empty seats and I assumed those were meant for the military. That was a very cool gesture. |

That could be because, at first, it was hard to hear Justin McKee and his helpers when it started. The stadium holds 75,000 doesn't it? I thought it looked like a pretty good crowd for a "first time" event! |

| We had tickets on the corner on the end the barrel racing was run on. They were $37 bought 2 weeks before. I saw a few still left on the first and second barrel for $400 or $450. The very top sections had black curtains over them and tickets were only available for the lower sections. I was thrilled though by the number that turned out and hope it was in successful numbers they continue it each year. So exciting. |

I looked it up.......capacity is 80,000 so that would be approx. 40,000.....
I would say that was an excellent turn-out for a first time event and more than two times the spectators at the NFR........PLUS the thousands that didn't get there because of the weather. |

I bet they fill it up next year. In 2011, the total draw for the NFR was 175,000 over 10 days....this was for just one day. Pretty darned exciting. Texas is perfect, because they know and appreciate rodeo. |
