My boyfriend intended to take "Sadie" a 2 year old lab as an overnight foster dog. She has been with him and his ex-wife and their kids together for now just shy of 13 years. She is being put down today and I would like to get a gift for my boyfriend. she isn't being cremated so I can't do anything with the ashes. does anyone know of any good ideas that isn't to girly or overwhelming? the best I'm finding is necklaces and rings.

What about a drawing by SaraJean? I've seen her do a few smaller images on one paper and I think it looks real nice. You could get a nice frame to go with it too.

That was going to be my suggestion too! I think that's a sweet, personalized gift. I also like the idea of a good photo in a special frame.

What about the dogs collar in a shadow box that he can hang on the wall or sit on his desk?   Dog tags on a cool key chain?

keep the dog collar and tags!! My SO has his beloved dogs' collar and tags ... they are put in a place of honor next to a little box with the ashes.

I know you said they weren't going to cremate, but what if you had a wood type frame around a picture of the dog with the kids, then attach the dog collar complete with tags to the top or over one corner?

sara did a portrait of my husband's chocolate lab who had to be put down right before Christmas.
the print turned out great, her turn around time is INCREDIBLY fast and the cost is beyond attainable to anyone.
My husband was totally blown away and it was the best money I could have spent.

When my great dane died they put his paw print in a mold and gave it to me when I went to pick his ashes up.

They make picture frames that say "Thanks For the Memories, I had a Great Time" that are good for memorial type pictures.

When my girlfriend lost her gelding I went to the local hardware store and they had a concrete kit that you could make a pet grave stone with. It looked like a stepping stone.

My little girl that I lost to the coyote attack was named Sadie as well....

I'm going to get a painting of her made for my mom.  She was just as much my moms dog as she was mine....I think a painting/drawing would be nice for a guy too.
