| I'm looking at a quarab mare as a barrel prospect. Has anyone had experience running quarabs/arabians?
I'm looking to do local barrel races.. Eventually jackpots and rodeos.
She is 15.2hh and pretty stocky. I'be always loved arabs personality and endurance, as well as quarter horses for their build.
Would it be possible? |

Location: Oklahoma | My second horse (& the one who really taught me how to ride) was a (grade) Quarab gelding. Loved him to pieces, but he didn't make much of a barrel horse. He kicked butt at play days and local 4H events, but was barely a 4D horse at jackpots. I got him when he was seven, but had never been formally trained on the barrels. I think if you took the time to properly train any horse it would have potential. I was 10 at the time and neither my parents or myself really knew what we were doing.
I have never (& doubt I ever will again) had such a bond with a horse. He was so loving and did & everything that was asked of him and did it with a flair.
I personally would try to find a quarter horse or appendix before I would go with another Quarab for barrels, but that's just my opinion and you should follow your own instinct. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | My little mare I ran HS rodeo in the early 80's was QH/arab, back then when we weren't for the most part running against race breds she was tough. And total kick butt at the playdays. LIke someone said 15 years after I lost her at the age of 33 "She was the only horse that could turn on a penny and need change back" LOL!!! |

| Depends if you want to be really competitive in the rodeo world such as pro, I wouldn't.
For small local to have fun, sure.
If by some chance you need to sell resale value will be very little in the barrel world unless the horse has proven himself.
Today competition is a lot tougher as horses are now bred for specific disciplines, it has become a fine art on finding the perfect barrel horse.
You may fluke out and get a grade horse that can win, but the science is against it |

Location: Too Far North | Look at the horse, look at its conformation. Does it have a nice big hip and a good angle to its shoulder? Look at the horse critically from every angle for good barrel racing conformation. Can you find any information on the parents? Does it have pleasure QH? Racing Qh? Same for the arab side, pleasure ?. Racing ? If you like what you see, get along with the horse, and it has some speed? Why not? |

Location: Sorrow Not! Defending against workplace bullies | I raced my Arab at jackpots for about three years. We had a lot of fun and won some but only in the 5 d or sometimes 4d. As much as we both tried he did not have enough speed although he was very consistent and would win in averages. I always thought a Quarab would be great if you could combine an Arabs heart and soundness with a QH build. But I have not seen Arabs or Quarabs win at races. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I believed my first horse was a Quarab. Was bought just as a Arabian and she was pretty skinny so we thought so but once she put on weight and some muscle her but grew three sizes!! I loved it hahaha! She was amazing for playdays and small jackpots. Always in the 4D or 3D. At one place we were in a AAA division but I've never really heard of that before. She won me some money but back then I didn't really pay too much attention to that kind of stuff. I had four wonderful years with that horse before we had to put her down. I'd love to have one for my children one day. Here's a side picture of her and me.

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | It depends on which one was the mother. If the mother was quarter horse and race bred YES. If the mother was Arab and polish/ race bred YES.... Any other cross will be a waste of time and effort. |

Location: Fort Bragg North Carolina | My arabian x : I attached a link to a pic of her. I cannot get my phone to upload a pix She's a 2d barrel horse runs 21-22 poles and I can throw an English saddle on her and jump all day long I wasn't an "Arabian" person until I found this gem. I thought my QH were nice movers until I owned this mare. She can outrun my others too. (Reminder there are Arabian races like Tb racing lol) She's scared of rediculous stuff but when it's time to work she's all focus best personality!! Gives 100%. Most ppl think she's a young horse and I have to tell them she's an Arabian (hence the small head) I've rodeo on her as well as jackpot and she's never at the bottom. :)

Location: Florida | Definitely! I acquired a 13.3 quarab barrel mare a few months ago. She is cute as a button and a little pistol, and keeps up with the big horses! She clocks usually 3d-4d, and we are 1st in one local club and 2nd in another. I would now actually lean towards getting a Quarab if I ever saw one available!

Location: on my horse | I had a 14.2 hand Quarab mare that was still running 1-2D at 23, anything is possible, just look for big hip etc that you would like to see on any barrel horse. |

Location: Beneath the Cypress trees | My horse is a full blood Arabian. In jackpots and NBHA races he placed in the 4D regularly. Before injuring his shoulder, we began placing in the 3D at races with 100+ horses. He wasn't the fastest, but he was careful and smart and handled any kind of footing with ease. It saved him many times from knocking barrels and getting stuck in deep footing where faster horses would. He was also an excellent pole horse.
I can imagine that adding a QH to that mix would only add some sprinting speed.
I love my Arabian, wouldn't trade him for the world :)

Location: Somewhere over the rainbow | I have a three year old. Daddy was the Arabian and momma is the quarter horse. She out runs every horse out in the pasture. I have two off the track. I don't know how she will do on barrels but she is fast! |
