Location: Phoenix | As some of you may know I am moving to Arizona. I am able to get transferred with my same company, but the position I will be performing will be a demotion based on what I was doing at my old location. The position I will be doing in Arizona involves a lot of sales and a lot of customer service which is what I was doing before I got promoted to the administrative position I was doing in San Diego. Its also part time instead of full time. And it would be working out in the heat, although it would be in a covered building but still outside nonetheless. All in all, I know I won't be happy or enjoy going to work knowing that I have to focus on sales (the customer service part is fine but I loathe sales. It's just not my forte).
I know a job is a job and I should be thankful that they will transfer me, but I'm just not that excited about it. It would be bad form to quit because they kind of wanted a year commitment so my quitting won't affect their retention numbers. Which, in the end, it's my life so I'm going to do what I need to do but I just want to get your take on what you think I should do. I'm thinking about getting a full-time job during the day and then maybe working that job at night because there's no way I can afford to live on that part time job. I guess I just feel like I could be doing so much better job-wise because I'm almost 25, very smart.. I just feel like this position is very dumbed down compared to what I am capable of. What do you think? |

Location: North Dakota | Maybe you will be promoted and return to full time work after they get to know you at the new facility. It may take you a few months and working another part time job. they offered you the job in a different location because they like you or they would not have offered a thing! |

| I can see your frustration. If I were you, I would be seeking full time employment. With that said, I am not much of a risk taker. I need stability or I will drive myself crazy. It does say something that they offered to transfer you but I also agree with your concerns. |

Location: Phoenix | I'm confident I could find somewhere else to work. My friend she works for CiGna and they have openings at their call center of making like $15 an hour which, for 15 an hour I will answer calls and be nice to people. The job lined up is $11. Not worth it to me. I just really want to make some money and earn PTO!! My coworker back home was saying I should ditch this job and just go in the service industry because I can make a lot more.... Blah. |

Location: Phoenix | I mean I could work closer to home (it would be a 45 minute commute) and work full-time in fast food and be in better working conditions...I just struggle with quitting when they just transferred me.... :/ |

Location: North Central South Dakota, west of the Might Mo | I was once told, "It's easier to get a job, when you have a job." In my experience, I have found this to be true, and when we are hiring people, if they are not currently employed, we always wonder why.
Thus, I would stick with the job. You never know when you might be promoted. At the very least, you can start looking for another job after you have moved. Having an income is always a benefit.

| Every job is a sales job, unless you are a slacker or you work for government. I would keep working until you were promoted or found something better. There is no shame in looking forward. |

| Move if you want to move there, on their dime. Give it a whirl, if you hate it, get a new job doing something else. Life is short, you are young, why not? If you don't want to move, don't. Getting set up in a new place is deceptively expensive.
As far as stability goes, forgive me, $11 an hour isn't stable unless you already have everything paid for and you can afford to get paid $11 an hour.
I'd be flipping over rocks looking for something better, but that's how I go. |

Location: Phoenix | Thanks potatochip....that's kind of where I am at. The main reason they transferred me is because I said I could commit for a year (as to not affect their retention rates). I didn't sign anything though. But I was under the impression that I would be doing the same job and it would be full-time....
I know the right thing to do would be to go and work but I really don't want to...I'm just really dreading it. |

| Then you need to speak up and tell them what your expectations are. Your expectations are reasonable and they're probably trying to take advantage of your general youth and inexperience, topped by knowing you're unwilling to make demands.
When it comes to my pocketbook, business is business. If I know I'm getting screwed, and my employer plays dumb or doesn't uphold their end of the deal, I'm out. You can be cordial and outgoing during the conversation, but be firm at the same time. Any employer will respect that, and if not, you don't want to stay with them anyways.
Don't make life decisions over a part time job and $11.00 an hour! |

| I know AZ is not doing as well as our part of the world, but no way would I work for $11/hr at a job I didn't like. McDonalds starts people at$14/hr near me......I started in a not great job at $15.50/hr and used what I learned there to move way up. The company I am with now has wonderful perks, provided me with a brand new truck and a lot more per hour. If you have skills, market them. |

Maybe I'm a brat, but I absolutely hated that position and I don't think I'm going back because find is miserable when I'm doing a job I'm not good at. Is calling and telling them acceptable?
Oh and we are in the Surprise area for now with my boyfriends mom. Once he finds a job we will move closer to wherever he's working and get our own place. |

| I would take the demotion, move, then both look within your company to see if advancement is possible and also put my resume on the street. A job, even if it pays a little less, is so much better than no job! Moving is enough stress, you don't need the stress of trying to find employment on top of learning a new area. |

Then you aren't far from Scottsdale. Scottsadle Insurance Company is a great company that pays well and has great benefits. It can be a high stress job. I'm pretty sure they are hiring and will train.
