Fuel tank in hay rack...

Anyone have their fuel tank for your generator in the hay rack with the generator? My question is does the gas pump hose reach up top to fill the gas tank? Thanks!

That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Gravity being your worst enemy there. Any leak or spillage and you have a fire hazard top to bottom. I do think most hoses would reach if you got close enough though. Better keep Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on call to fill it.

Any truck stop with satellite pumps the hose will reach, but I would advise against it, as the leakage problem.

I ever so handily climb up my ladder with a set of reins tied to a one gallon fuel jug on the ground. Then I lean over and haul it up. Reins- because it was the only "rope" I had on hand at the time and had not thought that far ahead with my new trailer. Of course I had my hubby fill it up with a bigger jug at home before I left and I have no idea how he got the bigger gas jug up. Probably with the tractor. He told me from now on to hook up when possible at a show instead of using the generator. How do people keep hay dry in the hay rack? Hope it doesn't rain when going down the road? Cover with a tarp at the show/location? Individual bale bags?

After doing some research, I have decided to do it. Leaking shouldn't be anymore of a problem on top as down below. Good tight fittings seem to be the key. We are going with a 46 gallon tank, which should hold enough fuel for a few days. Fill it up once at the pump and I should be good to go for awhile. And there is no pump to leak, which is a plus. And it leaves more storage space for other things too. I let everyone know how it works out.
