Has anyone made their own Portable electric fence kit?  I have all of the stuff already with the exception of the step in posts and solar fencer so it should be realtively simple and much cheeper than buying the kits!

I don't buy kits, its way too expensive.  I buy a roll of white tape, a slug of push in posts and a solar charger.  I can use all the stuff here at home if I need to make a quick pen somewhere.

Where did you get the solar charger?  My only problem with the solar charger is most times i arrive at night and am setting up the dark so i doubt the solar charger would be working until the next day... anyone use battery powered electric fences?   Also what do u do about a ground?

There is a battery operated charger that uses 4 D batteries that works really well. I've also used the el cheapo plug in charger and plugged it into my outside trailer plug.

You will need something with metal to use for the ground wire.

I use an extension cord roll for my wire, roll it up completely, and add the handle onto the end. Then when I set up, I put the posts in, then hook the gate handle on the post where I want it to open, and run the wire around, put a knot in the end pole for the gate handle, and set the extension cord spool on the ground. Works great.
