To try to "fit" a saddle to my horse? I don't have any saddle shops close that make saddles, just dealers. I would like to try as many as possible. I have the weirdest backed horse. Also shimming question.... I thought I had saw a deal where sherry cervi shimmed her saddles to have wider saddles to allow her horses to grow more muscle on their withers and back. Is that right? Do shims really allow your horse more room to grow more muscle??
Thank you

Can you post some pictures of your horse's back from different angles? And what saddles have you tried on him - what did you like about the fit and what did you dislike? There is a wealth of saddle information here and folks may be able to give you some guidance on what brands may or may not work.
Sherry Cervi shims her Martin Crown C; She has a video out there explaining it that is pretty good. The Crown C's are meant to fit the widest part of the horse's back and be shimmed to fit the rest. Does this mean that muscle will fill in eventually? Maybe, if the horse has atrophy in the muscle and he's worked properly to build that muscle. The Martin saddles and the theory doesn't work for all horses. Happens to work for mine though and it fits him like a glove. Right now we are in a 7" gullet - I think this horse could take an 8" eventually, but probably not anything bigger than that, as he's more narrow overall.
A little more on the Martin tree's

I know a few folks on here have said that Martin has a good trial program; but I think you also need to really understand how to fit their saddles if you don't have someone knowledgable helping you.
