So..said shipper was four days late picking horse up. I believed excuses because i know how driving conditions, traffic, etc. Can affect a long trip. but after the horse was finally picked up, i found out the excuses were lies..... at this point shipper already has my horse. Says hes coming straight to me, and then stops communicating. After 24 hours FINALLY get response, but get three different stories on why hes delayed. Then i hear nothing again. Next day, i find out hes still in the same town, with yet again varying inconsistent stories... he tells me one thing, his boss says another thing. I havent snapped and voiced my opinion because he still has my horse until tomorrow.. so ive been ignored, lied to, etc. Terrible business, terrible ethics. He even lied about being DOT registered. I didnt check into it because stupid me, i trusted his smooth talk. They have broken the signed contract ..

praying that after 3.5 days on the trailer my boy is ok. Very high anxiety right now..... want more info...pm me...

Anyway.. if this was your horse, what would you do? Do i still pay this moron full price? Do i report his negligence?? My horse even got loose when he unloaded on the shoulder of the interstate! And ignoring me for a whole day, and most of today as well? Wtf! My gelding was picked up in MN before knowledge of the EHV outbreak. When i double checked where horses on his trailer were from/ what he has had on recently, he wouldnt tell me... finally threw a fit and learned my gelding should be safe...but in a emergent situation, i would except prompt and straight forward answers!

So do i act on this, or do i live and learn from the mistake and keep my mouth shut? Am i entitled to somehow barter the fee ? I have it in cash and am NOT looking for an out to save money and screw anyone over.... but after this experience, this man doesnt deserve what he quoted..

Im overtired, stressed, and have high anxiety. My phone has no spell check on here, so please disregard my spelling, grammar, and other typing mistakes.

Man...I'd be madder than a wet hen too.  But I think you are playing it smart if you keep things calm as you can until your horse is safely delivered.  You mentioned a signed contract.  What parts of that contract have they violated?  THAT would be your negotiating tool.  If they are just jerks and slow...that's one thing and you learn and you tell others about your experience.  But if a contract was breached...that's a whole nother bag of apples.

Does his contract or anything in writing he gave you claim that he is DOT Registered?  If so...and he truly isn't...I'd be reporting that to the DOT as well.  AFTER the horse arrives hopefully safe.

Let us know how it turns out

The signed contract has specific pick up and drop off dates. With guarantees that he wouldnt be late. Now thats just stupid to put in a contract, considering what happens out on the road is out of our control...also includes that he was doing a straight trip down here. He went 500 miles out if his way to do another job that they just got. Again, all fine and good until he lied about it and never contacted me to inform me.
He also failed to inform me that my horse quit drinking and was relying strictly on electrolytes, and ran out of hay as well... all things, including delays, that the fine print passured i would be notified about.

My horse was leaving MN coming to AZ....i called to check where his trailer has been and whats been in it, because of the EHV scare, and they were so fricken rude and didnt want to tell me anything... just disgusting!!

My horse is supposed to arrive in two hours...this man is absolutley getting an ear full!!

Id be worried of course to but if your not talking to him how do you know your horse is out of hay and not drinking and your horse got loose?
who told you ? as for the DOT .. Id have made sure he was and had reviews and made sure he was reputable.
as far as bartering..I dont know if you can.
Id sure be upset but if you go on transportation forum on here you will see its not uncommon.. good luck .. id be concerned to..

I have had a couple bad ones. Unfortunatly we are the sellers...so didn't know until they were unloaded on the other end. One horse stood in his own pee and crap from WY to Amarillo TX. He was coated from the belly down with it, so they never did unload him in the 3 days they took to get him there.  They pulled into her drive way going WAY to fast and hit the brakes and jumped him out the emergency narrow side door. He scraped his back legs on the step down (because it is so much higher on the sides) from the hocks to his ankles. The buyer was miffed at the shipper, not us, but he had already been paid in full. He was an easy going gelding too so should have been no trouble at all.

Then just recently, everything seemed good until the buyer called me and said the shipper (who had just picked up the horse hours earlier) wanted her to pay an extra $100 because he had to drive into our rural ranch and on dirt roads to get him. WOW charging after the fact??? I thought that is what mapquest and GPS are for. We also forgot to send him with a bale so the shipper had to stop and pick one up (he had tons of hay on the trailer) and wanted $50 for that. I couldn't believe it so I sent her $50 back as that was my fault. She said it was in the contract that he would feed the horse and no where did it say anyone would provide hay. Anyways, we usually do so our fault. But $50 is a little steep. He spent a lot of extra time on the trailer, but was unloaded in OK for a couple days layover, then on the way to her in GA was the only horse so had the trailer to himself and was given box stall space with out her paying extra so in the end all turned out well. Just have to really watch those shippers.

Good luck to your horse and if not paid in full, you have more room to work. Prayer for a healthy horse.

Get your horse, have a copy of the contract with you, and say you will discuss with his boss on payment as there was a breach in contract. Say this after the horse is in you pasture.

I would also contact the seller and get the most recent pictures emailed to you so you can compare condition of the horse

The person running the business is not the person hauling my horse. The person sitting behind the computer screen is giving me these"updates" but ive been almost completely ignored by the one driving. When i do talk to him, he has one story, the other has another. Nothing has matched up. He has A LOT of positive reviews from short hauls, i only recently found out that almost all longer hauls have been negative. I did a lot of homework, obviously not enough.
I am very careful with my horses, but obviously became to trusting of these guys and didnt dig enough. I do lay a lot of blame on myself, but now thst hes in the care of these guys, there isnt much i can do. I tried to find a company to pick him up for the rest of th way, but couldnt find anyone, so i couldnt just have him unloaded at some random place till i could figure it out.

They required a deposit, but told me i could just pay COD, SO nothing has been paid yet... all i can do is pray that in two hours, my baby steps off that trailer safe and sound. But i am trying to figure out what to do from there. This whole thing is a disasterous learning oppurtunity, but after the lies and deciet, im ready to pay and tell them to screw off. Will be making some formal complaints and reports.. hopefully my boy is ok, but the next victim may not be...may try to barter. If it doesnt work, so be it, at least my horse will be with me.

The horse is mine. I recently moved from MN to AZ. my boy had to wait to come until i was settled and financially ready to support him and myself. i have had him 7 years. he was picked up from my moms farm. she did take pics of the day he left. so i know how he left, hoping he unloads similar to that! Hes very healthy and sound, thats how i expect him to unload!

I had booked a shipper in October to deliver a horse for me they had a very impressive web site a friend said they were good. After being jerked around by them for a month and told many stories about why they hadn't yet picket up my horse ( which I later found out to be lies) .....a death in the family, truck troubles..... I got digging further and googled " bad experience with ------ equine hauling" wow there was a tonne of responses. I sent the shipper a letter firing her that morning and lone behold within 5 minutes of receiving the letter the driver called me to say he was on site ready to pick up my horse. They had been down there the whole time waiting to fill their load meanwhile telling me lies to hold me over so I didn't hire someone else. I was a huge inconvenience for myself and the horse owner. I ended up having to board the horse out somewhere else until I could get a hauler I could trust to bring her home. If anyone wants to know the name of the hauler I had the bad experience with please pm me, I'd be happy to share. Chevy girl, please pm me who your using I'm interested if its the same person.

Interested to hear how your gelding is upon arrival. Breach of contract, ball is in your court. Unfortunately, the anxiety of how the horse is far outweighs the significance of the amount owed.

I think I know who you are talking about as I had asked for a quote she didn't get back to me for about a month. When she did call me she said there was a death in the family. I doubt she lied about that.

How did you determine that there wasn't a death in the family?

I have had 2 horses hauled by that company and had great service, I haven't used them for 4 years, but to come on a public forum and slander a company, they could sue you if any bit of what you said is not true.

Uh...She didn't name the company...I doubt Porky is her real name....she doesn't even have a specific location listed...I'd say she is covered there.  Any company that were to try to sue must be guilty as charged if they make the assumption that they were the complany being maligned.

Im not slandering anyone, and have been careful not to mention names. I can pm names to those who asked.
I have proof of everything ive said :)

The person i am hauling with is a man, and a death in the family wasnt one of the excuses i recieved..

Throughout this whole situation, i have been very careful to remain calm. My horse is priority, not slandering, bashing, or any other type of drama. This is my first experience with a shipper. Yes i am ANGRY AS HECK, but no, i will not be overdramatic or stretch the truth of what has happened. As stated before, my horse is #1. I will happily pay this man the full amount granted my horse is unloades safe and sound. But you better believe i will carefully and truthfully warn others so noone else deals with this person!!
