 Two things

First, I will be picking up my trophy saddle next weekend.  What is a good way to turn the stirrups out quickly?

Second, I'd like to start considering a headstall and breastcollar for my new saddle.  Who does really nice beadwork with some bling?

I'd love to stick with Rodeo Drive, but their headstalls are too long.  All of my guys wear gag cheek headstalls either because their heads are small or they are in gag or hacks or combos.

Thanks!!

In answer to turning your stirrups. take a wet rag and soak the back side of your fenders, then fold toward you. wrap a belt or some rope, twine to hold the fold, place on saddle stand or other, turn or twist the stirrup and place a broom handle, board or similar object and leave that way for 2 days. the water won't hurt your saddle and you don't have to soak clean to the outside of the fender. You don't fold flat like a piece of paper but just enough to give a U shape. Congraduations on your WIN!!

I put my saddles on a rack and twist them twice around (if I can) to the inside and put a broom stuck through them or tie them together twisted under the saddle. With the free standing racks I turn the studios forward and put a broom through them in front of the front bar on the stand to pull them forward and turn them. You can also out the fenders first and it helps

I love Luann's tack. And I set my stirrups, by putting my saddle on a saddle stand, twist your fenders to the way your feet will be sitting in your stirrups, run a broom stick throught your stirrups and then spray the backs and front of your fenders near your stirrups, I let dry then I spray again I repete this for like 4 days in a roll. I really get mine wet, the water will not hurt your leather.

I turn the fenders and stick a broom handle in the stirrups after I really really SOAK some oil into the leather a few times. I like a well oiled saddle.

And Jen at Radical Expressions can make you anything you want!! She is fully capable of making you a gag length headstall. And she has a girl doing beading for her now. I ordered my set a few weeks ago and cannot wait to see it. She's on Facebook and you can see some of her work. She's awesome to work with. LOVE LOVE LOVE her work.

Turn the stirrups (the right way, almost turned mine the wrong way LOL) twice around, or as far as you can get them, stick a brook through them and hang your saddle upside down, I used the dividers in the trailer. Works great, my stirrups were great in two days, and the weight of the saddle really helps.
For tack, if you want bling I recommend Heritage Brand, they make gorgeous stuff, and can make pretty much anything you want, whatever size you want. If you want something beaded, try Whispers Beaded Tack on Facebook, she makes really nice stuff, I think.
Congratulations on winning a saddle!

Translation:

Ditto to what everybody else suggested: use a broomstick to turn the fenders. My gelding's (hocks?) are fusing and he might need some time off. I'm going to look at a project horse to tune up in the meantime. I should be able to find a project for around $3,500.

I'd love to stick with Rodeo Drive, but their headstalls are too long.  All of my guys wear gag cheek headstalls either because their heads are small or they are in gag or hacks or combos.

Thanks!!

I work with Barrels N Beads all the time. She can have whatever length you want on your headstall and she will bead you whatever you can dream up. I then send the Rodeo Drive conchos to her and she assembles everything put together and sends out the finished product.

Thanks for the reminder of how to turn stirrups everyone!

And thanks NTO -- since the saddle has the RD conchos I'd like to have them worked into the headstall and breastcollar.  I've got some nice ideas brewing for beads and bling together!
