What are your experiences with them?? I am REALLY liking my Strawflyin Buds mare. She is out of a rare form daughter… any who, just wanting to know what other people have felt about theirs.. kind of sad both Strawfly special and Strawflyin buds have passed :/

Here's an updated picture of her.. She's gaining more weight and filling out nicely.

I have a daughter of Strawflyin Buds. Big, stout built mare with a 92 SI . Tried her on barrels but she wouldn't rate to save your life. She also came with a lot of baggage that she really couldn't be gotten out of. She & her 3 yr old daughter we own will fight back if you really push the issue with something they don't like. Finesse goes a long way with them. I love my mare & she isn't sound to ride but her 3 year old is a dream to ride. We have the mare booked to Epic Leader this year, so hopefully that will work out. Good luck with yours, she sounds nice!

My mare looks a lot like yours!

Mine is 100% automatic at the second and third barrel but does not have much natural rate going to the first. I've been working with her and she clocks with a half decent first barrel, so I haven't really been pushing the issue too much. She is hard to catch in the pasture but I just either ride before I turn her out or when I bring everyone inside. She is really sweet and affectionate, hauls good so far, pretty calm but occasionally hot in the alley. all in all I really really like her.

I have 2 mares by JD Look (who is by Strawfly Specialhttp://www.allbreedpedigree.com/jd+look

I love them both!!! One of them ran on the track from age 2-5 and was a very successful sprinter. She broke a track record and ran AAA. She is my pride & joy. Literally 2 weeks after first loping the pattern she was effortlessly clocking 18.0s on a standard set, with me falling off half the time. It was totally shocking for me how ratey she is. I think they do tend to run a little hotter and are a bit sensitive.

Hope yours is lots of fun :-)

My strawflyin buds daughter is a nice easy going mare, but when she gets to playing, bucking and running in the turn out you better MOVE! That mare moves with purpose . I obviously have no idea how she rides, but she ran an 84 SI.
She is a BIG bodied mare, deep heart girth, big hip, wide ole butt, good chest, just like big every where.
Honestly though people don't seem to be too impressed with them, there have been multiple strawflyin buds daughters for sale for really reasonable prices and they havn't moved.

I however really like this mare and like Double Bar S ranch I'll be crossing mine for a race prospect on a corona cartel son.
Double Bar S ranch has a TON of horses on the track out of Strawfly special and strawflyin buds daughters. and the corona cross seems to work for them!

I have 2 JD Looks too.... Both are crossed with DTF on the bottom side. Smart, athletic, fast, willing, they both have minds like gold. I am a quiet rider so I like the hot and sensitive... We get a long really well.

I have a Strawfly Special maternal granddaughter. Balanced well put together mare. Great mind. Shes by Dash Thru Traffic. Most her siblings were more TB built, she's maybe 15.2 hds and pretty stout.

I have a Strawflyin Buds mare, She is from the Large Heart Gene family of Splashin Bunny, and I absolutely love her!  Her 2 year old is at the track and is going awesome!  She weighed in at 1450 lbs at the vet one day after she foaled for the first time, so she is a big stout mare who looks alot like your mare.  Her 2nd dam is the dam of Splash Back, Jumpn, Carters Cartel, Jumpin Tac Flash, etc.  Even Ochoa is under her.

I would take 50 of her if I could get them....lol

Below is a picture of her and her 6 month old colt.  He is the 2 year old in training.

I live 5 miles from Double Bar S Ranch, so I like in Strawfly Special Country. I have loved all of the ones I have been around. Would love to have a SS daughter for a broodmare. A friend of mine bred and raised a Strawflyin Buds daughter out of a DTF daughter and she is really making a nice barrel horse - the people love her.

In my dream world I want to breed my mare to Dash Ta Fame in a couple years. Doubt I will have the money to do it, but I think she would cross really well on a son of his.

Strawfly special is something I look for in a pedigree. He is one of my favourite studs. I have a granddaughter on the dams side and I love her!
