How many lbs of alfalfa cubes to I feed my 1000 lbs 4 year old? He's on pasture 12+ hours a days and I'm feeding him Alfalfa as his "feed".

Horses need a minimum of ten percent of their body weight in roughage daily. How good is the pasture he's on? How much do you ride him? What type of body condition is he in now? Does he need to lose/gain weight? Does he get any other hay the twelve hours he's in a stall? I feed five pounds of alfalfa hay, free choice bermuda grass, as well as five pounds of a pelleted feed daily. I ride 45 minutes to an hour five days a week. I've fed cubes, soaked and dry, but found a good source of hay. I'm guessing but would start off with 8/10 pounds of dry cubes daily. After a month you can reevaluate.

I think you mean a minimum of 2%?? 10% would be 100 lbs of roughage/day.
