My son-in-law has shared the following information concerning our precious little Wyatt's condition so I feel comfortable sharing this same information publicly instead of bits and pieces privately. Here is what he has shared...please keep little Wyatt in your thoughts and prayers.
Wyatt Status Update:
Little Wyatt is 2 days old & was moved yesterday from UofU newborn ICU to Primary Children's Cardiac ICU, during which he met his brother, Dakota, for the first time.
Heart Status: tetralogy Fallot, he has a ventricle septal defect (hole between heart chambers) as well as pulmonary atresia (not fully developed pulmonary stem/valve to pulmonary artery, feeds blood to lungs for oxygenation). Overall, his heart is strong & with the prostaglandin he is breathing room air and oxygenation levels are in the 80-90s range (great for his condition).
Brain Status: he had an MRI yesterday of which we received the results today. Basically confirmed what we knew already, but did not provide a specific prognosis. Cortical dysplasia, with polymicrogyria. Essentially his frontal & temporal lobes development is abnormal with smoothness & many tiny waves (not smooth brain syndrome); there is a wide array for prognosis. Additionally the small bleed that occurred early on in pregnancy is considered insignificant & most likely as his brain further develops will disappear after a year. Additionally, his brain stem is well formed so that is also positive in this case.
He also has a clubbed left foot.
At this time we are completing genetic testing to help provide as accurate prognosis as possible to help us determine our next steps. We essentially have two options at this point & both are difficult at this time, but we have at least 2 weeks to make a decision... First, to have open heart surgery & temporary shunt placed as a bypass for his heart to allow proper oxygenation of his blood until he is older & more stable (6-8 months of age) when we'd have to complete a second open heart surgery to remove shunt & repair/replace the pulmonary stem/valve & hole in his heart. The second option is to do nothing & enjoy our few weeks with our little man. We are hoping all the testing going on will allow us to make the most informed & proper decision for Wyatt & our family.
We want Wyatt to have a good quality of life whichever outcome plays out. Life is never fair, but that is life. Thank you all for your support, prayers & blessings during this challenging time. — with Melissa Beulin

| Many prayers for baby Wyatt! I sure do feel for them being in such a difficult position. I work in L&D and at a hospital with a level 3 NICU so we get moms and babies from 32 counties and it always breaks my heart when I hear parents having to made such difficult decisions. |
