Im trying to bring a stallion down here but have a lot of people say they'd never own a Chicks Beduino horse and I was just wondering why. I looked on here at previous threads but couldn't find a straight answer other than one person said hers gets frazzled easily.
Are they buckers? Mean? Dirty? Hard to train? Dense?
The horse I am asking about Ive ridden personally and LOVED him. If i had one bad thing to say about him was when he was over being ridden he started doing the prettiest flying lead changes LOL! He was a real character and I thoroughly enjoyed him. And from what ive heard his babies are good too.
Also I am talking about direct sons, daughters, or grand GET. Once they get past that it doesnt matter to me if CB is 3 or 30 generations back.

But I think he will grow out of it |

Location: MD | http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/pulling+punches I have this one in at the moment. Cool dude. Very easy to get along with, but he's not the sort that you could leave sit for a couple of weeks and then just go lope circles on. Very gritty, fast, can clock with the best of them, but you better ride him every other day and make him tow the line. So long as you do that, couldn't ask for a nicer one.
I also have a Special Crown Royal mare that belongs to a client that I have worked with for a couple of years now. Huge mare, pushing an honest 16.3 HH. She's a baby doll, but every once in a while, that one can crack her back and kick up her heels out of nowhere. I like the CB's overall, but from the ones that I have encountered through the years, he throws a certain sort of quirk. Just like with many other lines, it all takes all types of riders to either like/dislike the characteristics attributed to any bloodline. |

Ha "quirk"
Alicat - he's 7 almost 8. But he came off the track, first he raced then I guess compared to the other nutjobs he was "so calm" they used him as a pony horse for a while. He's really good about legitimately scary things like loudspeakers, children screaming, car alarms, etc. BUT LOOK OUT if a leaf looks at him the wrong way. He's an oddball, but I love him.
In the arena he is a worker - it's just the other 23 hours, 59 minutes and 43 seconds of the day you gotta worry about. |

Location: SE KS | The story I got from an old timer on CB was that he was mean. Story went that he killed a guy. However, there probably is more to that story!!!!

The most successful barrel horses with Chicks Bedunio in their pedigrees have been out of daughters or have sires that were out of daughters. Direct siring sons don't fare so well statistically. |

| I have a son of Special Crown Royal love him to death. Laid back and good natured but he has gotten a wild hair up his behind and bucked pretty good with my boyfriend. Granted he only did it once and has never tried it with me or anybody else. I have been told they are hard to make futurity horses out of because they do not follow a training schedule very well which I believe because mine was just not coming along really great for a while then something clicked and he started clocking overnight. Also he is very honest since whatever clicked we have not gone backwards in training. I have never rode anything that can get across the pen like he can either (and I have a son of Tres Seis who has nothing on this one both off the track) I would get another in a heartbeat. Mine is out of a Runaway winner mare |

| I will say I do not think they fit with everyone. Trainers I have talked to that love them all agree you can't force them to do it. Can't pick on them over and over |

My SO owns one, we've taken several as outside horses, and my best friend has ran 4 of them. Should I get you her number for a personal reference? |

Location: Texas | Thanks everyone for the replies. I got to thinking and stupid me forget about the old man! He was an own son of CB too and was a wicked fast 1D horse even at 17. I remember I liked riding him but didnt like to handle him. He was a real turd. But was wicked fast...even faster than this horse lol.
Again thanks for the replies and to whoever said they weren't statistically as succesful in the barrel pen. I have to agree, you dont see many own sons or daughters. I also think in my opinion that he was an excellent brood mare sire :) But thats just me. I think the same thing of strawfly special lol |

I should have specified: my gelding is out of a DAUGHTER of Chicks Beduino - he's not an own son.
And I love him to pieces... My big red scaredy cat. :) |
