Anyone else see that Martin came out with a new barrel saddle? They are calling it the FX3.

"
***INTRODUCING A NEW BARREL SADDLE FROM MARTIN*****
The seat of the FX3 accommodates riders who ride shorter stirrups and sit deep on their pockets, while easily keeping time with acceleration out of the turn. The tall swell with prominent leg cut keeps you positioned back and secure on a hard-dropping horse by letting you keep your knees forward. The FX3’s fenders also easily swing forward to help keep you down in the back of the saddle. Those specific features are the catal...ysts to the style of riding the FX3 was designed for. The 3.5” horn allows for a full hand grip, and is tilted forward to stay out of the rider’s way and give maximum leverage during the turn. The FX3 is designed with Martin’s exclusive and patented adjustable rigging, increasing its versatility and adaptability. The FX3 is available in 6.5”, 6.75”, and 7” gullet and wider. Test rides will be available at the Better Barrel Races World Finals in Oklahoma City from the National Saddlery Company Booth!"

I saw it and think I'll stick with my Crown C. Nice saddle though:

How does Martin do their test rides for saddles at big shows like the BBR?  Do they just have loaners on hand and you try it out on your horse, or do they have an area set up with saddles already on horses?

I'm pretty sure that they will let you try them on your own horse to see how it fits your horse and your self.

Last time I was at OKC and Martin Saddlery was they, they put a saddle on my horse and told me to go ride in it. They were very helpful in finding the right fit. I think that they only had Crown C's though, and I was looking for a Racer. Since they didn't have a gullet width big enough for my mare they told me to I could go down to their shop to have her fitted and see exactly which size she would need. Didn't make it down there, but I plan to the next time I'm in OKC.

A Bit of Tack in MN has had these for a while

Crown C's are for riders who are up on their "crotch" so to speak, FX3's are for riders who ride from their pockets

Martin has a demo program that is free- I would check if the FX3's are part of this yet and see if you can try one if you are interested :)

Thanks, everyone!  I won't be taking a horse to the BBR, but hopefully I can sit in one and see if I even think it's something I would be interested in trying out.

Anyone know if they set up a booth at Ft. Smith?  That's a much closer drive for me than OKC if I could get my horse fitted (I don't trust myself doing it on my own, lol) if I decided it'd be something I'd like to buy?

That explains why I love the ride of my Crown C so much: I'm a crotch girl.   I just wish it actually fit the horse I'm running...

They have a shop in OKC?  I thought they were in TX.
ETA:  I realize now you are talking about National Saddlery.. not the Martin shop.

I think she means when they were set up as a vendor.

Yes, that's what I meant. The widest gullet that they had at the vendor booth was a 9" and they thought I'd need at least a 9.5" but most likely a 10". They said that if I'd go to their shop, down in the Stockyards I think, they could have her properly measured/fitted to see exactly what size she would need. I just never had a chance to hook up and haul my horse down there so I never got details on location or even the name (which I'm sure is National Saddlery!).
