OK so I'm deciding whether to get a sherry cervi bit or a wonder gag. Just want opinions on what one you think is better or if you use them

Ditto- I have the short shank and long shank. Very useful bit.

I have never used the wonder gag.

I've never been a fan of the Wonder bit.  I don't know why...I just don't care for it.  I'd choose the Cervi.

I like the Cervi's too, the wonder bits are a little on the cheap side and have to much gag. I do have a wonder bit and its about 28 years old. But never use it. Just kinda hanging around

Pssst.

Sherry Cervi uses Carolina Bit. Curt can make you pretty much anything you want for a lot cheaper most of the time. Call him. You won't be disappointed. ;)

Most name brand bits are charging you extra for the name.

Cervi bit anytime. Bought a wonder in a bargin bin. Not,worth anything has no feel trash can bit. My best snaffle is a myler i bought in a tack, shop bargin bin for,20.00 bux. There are different buts and work differently in in same type of bit snaffle. I have a carolina snaffle, and LAND W snaffle bit. The myler, works the best or mymhorse tell me so.

The Tack Stop has them in the short and long shank and either one is 67.00. This the place I like to buy bits from, she always has pretty good deals on her tack.

Love my Cervi bits:) I think the offer great shoulder control and my horse packs them very nicely. I actually prefer the three piece with the dogbone in the center; my hands like that bit.

I don't own a Wonder bit, never will either. I'd put them in the Tom Thumb category: JUNK.  I'm not sure how any horse could have any sort of  "feel" with as much gag as that thing has.

As you ride more, venture with different bits, you will notice the "expensive" hand made ones, have a lot of "feel" and are well balanced. If you would have told me 10 years ago, my go to bits would be my Dave Elliot bits which cost $150 a piece, I would have laughed. Not joking. I rode every horse yesterday in one of my Elliot bits. From my colts to my older horses, I love the feel they have, I love the balance, I love how my horses ride in them. Wonder gags are such a poorly made bit. Like mentioned above, like a tom thumb. I actually am not even much of a fan of Reinsman bits. Each to their own of course, my hands are soft and I have a lot of release with my hands, they do well with soft bits. I don't have one bit in my tackroom that make you go whoa, that looks intense. I do have two Cervi bit, I really like it to back my one gelding off my hands. He can get a little heavy and I don't like horses leaning on my hands. So he does well in dry work with it. I've never raced in a Cervi though. I have her draw gag too, which I thought I would sell, but I am finding my finished horse loves it for dry work, so I am keeping it.

Forgot to mentioned, I think the Cervi long shanks are a LOT OF BIT. I think a purchase that long, the shank that long, that is soooo much leverage. JMO

I have always used the wonder bit. I love it cause I can use it in so many ways.I can take the curb chain off and use it like a snaffle by putting my reins on the big ring. When the horse is needing more slip on the curb drop my reins to the middle ring and so forth. Has slightly less gag than the simplicity gag. I have very good luck with it.

I also like the wonder gag, because as mentioned I can use it as a snaffle when needed, or use the shank if leverage is needed.

It works for me! I actually used to ride in a jr cowhorse....then when I sent my horse off I asked when I got him back what bit I should ride him in, and I was told the wonder bit...and that it all really goes back to training and riding, not the bit...lol. So since then I have just stuck with that.

Different strokes for different folks!
