I've sent an email to the Calgary Stampede that although I'm only one I'm not attending or watching on tv. When I get time I intend to send an email to every sponsor as well. It's a joke that a Canadian city is promoting mostly American contestants. I believe in total there are less than 15% Canadians competing. Yeah I'm not happy. |

My take on it is, with making it a qualifying event (now) it does give people chances to go.....BUT that's a slippery slope too....most Canadians ( I'll use barrel racers) don't haul hard south of the border......and even CPRA top 4 finalist arent quaranteed to be a Canadian in the mix. I know many who feel same as you..... |

Location: South Dakota | I think if Calgary would go to a format similar to The American.....it would open up doors to so many, to try and get qualified, along with all the great human interest stories that come with it...eg..June Holeman....Charmayne..etc. I think it would be awesome to see Marlene McRae back at the Calgary Stampede, as she won countless times there.... At one time Calgary was not friendly to barrel racers in the least little bit....way less money added, etc... this was back in the 80's and they came around...eventually. Monica Wilson was LBR director at that time, and deserves great recognition making huge strides for barrel racing. So maybe with enough voices and emails, they will reconsider their qualification rules. Also cannot fathom why they would not add Lindsay Sears to the list....she is a huge fan favorite there....the crowd comes alive when she runs........as they do for other Canadian runners.

Ii was thinking the same thing. I very much enjoyed how the American was run with 1/2 and 1/2 qualified and invited. It gives you the favourites that everyone wants to see and the ones who earn it. |

Location: Stuck in a cubicle having tropical thoughts | But the Amrican doesn't count toward WPRA money earned or towards the NFR.
Since Calgary is now sanctioned WPRA and the money counts towards the NFR, you have to be a WPRA memeber and there has to be some qualification rules. It's not an invite anymore. What do people want? Canadaians invited or the money to count for the NFR? If you are Canadian and want to go, then get your card and go qualify. Lindsay qualified last year, but as we all know, she said she's semi retired from rodeo and she didn't get out and get qualified like the other girls.
Congrats to the girls that are out there getting themselves qualified and making a run for the big paycheck and most likely a chance to run at the NFR. It should be a good horse race. I'm persoanlly cheerig for Lisa Lockhart. I want to see her win the World. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | JMO...If you are a member of the WPRA or CPRA, everyone should have a shot of entering. They could take all entries and run a slack to get your qualifiers. These invitational and limited rodeos are BS. |

Tell that to Jean Winters. She put in her time, got qualified and it changed her life.
Jody Sheffield has said more than once that winning Rodeo Houston changed her life. Without it she would have never made it the NFR or been able to quit her job and train barrel horses and rodeo full time.
I always think it's cool to see how these huge, limited entry rodeos can change somebody's life. |
