Does anyone use a invisible fence for their dogs?  How do you like it, how big of an area do you have it step up on?

We have kind of a weird layout we are wanting to do and I am not sure if it will work.  We live on a big ranch and have 2 dogs that like to wonder.  Our landlord is OK with it except in the spring time when all the new babies are being born.  We do not want to keep them cooped up in a stall when we are not around so we thought we would try the invisible fencing.

One more question... when the fenced is turned off do your dogs hesitate or not want to go where they have been shocked before?

A dog on a mission will run right through it.  It also does not stop other animals from coming in your yard.  I think they are worse than worthless.  Lock them up or build a decent fence just around your house area.

I have a lab/golden mix & my mini aussie on a wireless fence & it works wonderful.  It covers an 80' circumference around the house & I placed it in the location where they can get to the fence out to the pasture but not through it.  My lab will test it on occasion but I just make sure that I replace the battery when the red light on the collar starts to flash.  It doesn't keep other dogs out but it keeps mine from going with or being out in the road.   Best money I ever spent on my dogs.

We've got a GPS collar for our female Catahoula that cant seem to stay home.  You can set the border on it.  She can go 450 yards from the center of our yard (which is a good distance!) But outside of that it shocks her.  Works like a charm. We've had it for 4 months and she's not disappeared even once since we've had it.  So I know that it works.  This is a dog that will chase after a deer, a rabbit, or a coyote and literally run for miles in open country.  This system has completely stopped her from roaming.  The collar and control has to be charged for a few hours every day but it's no big deal to charge it in the evening when we pen her up anyway.

I think I am going to have to look into this.  I think this would work better than the fence.

I use a wireless dog fence system with a pitbull I just rescued. Works great for us we only have a half acre at home. Thankfully the first family that fostered her taught her to respect it. She has a healthy fear of it, when she hears it give off the warning beep she runs for the house!
If your dog were the determined type they would as posted before run right through it. If anything if you try this type of fencing make sure the dog is able to come home without getting zap. A lot of the new companies have made their systems to allow the dog to come back through the fence without getting shocked, Some of the older models wont allow your dog near the home it would shock them

This is an awesome system!!!  NO putting out the wire  ( someone posted that you can put the wire on those step in fence posts instead of burying it)  but anyways this system rocks
