The Resident Destroyer of Liberal Logic
Location: PNW | So, I need some work-from-home ideas.
I have a BS in Elementary Education/Multidisciplinary Studies.
I have one, soon to be two, little boys running around - and I'm a 100% stay at home mom.
I don't think I'd do well in the direct sales (scentsy, Avon, etc.) unless it was horse related - because I don't use any of that junk and I have a really hard time faking enthusiasm.
I love to write - Hey Barrel Horse News, are you hiring? I
And I'm not crafty - so being an Etsy pro is out, I think.
Any ideas are welcome. I'm not looking to make tons of money; I'm just really struggling mentally with not contributing financially to my family and having my husband do it all - especially since MY horses rack up the biggest bills we have. |

Location: Southeast, Texas | You could consider after school tutoring for elementary children. It could be 1-2 evenings a week. It would utilize your degree, and be pretty low key. |

I tried this, and there's not ANY demand in my area. I live in a very rural community and nobody wants to drive to me, and if I drive to them it wouldn't be worth it after paying for fuel (50 miles round trip or so).
And I'm looking for something that I can DO FROM HOME, so that I don't have to find a sitter for my little ones. And once #2 gets here and needs the milk bar I definitely won't be able to go anywhere without him for very long. |

Location: lone star state | Do you cook? There is a stay at home mom in our area who does casseroles for working families for dinner. Another makes candy and fudge. They utilize face book and set delivery days time location. Also we have a couple of moms who do consignment sales for high end gently used baby/kid items.
Have you considered volunteering. My husband makes enough money for our family. I have always worked and been independent and can't stand sitting. I volunteer for CASA. It gives me a sense of doing something good for a child who needs a voice in the legal system.
Another idea would be to ride horses for others. Maybe you could work out a small fee with a friend who needs a horse exercised in exchange for paying your entry fees. Another idea would be purchase a broke prospect to pattern for resale... |

Location: Southeast, Texas | I was going to suggest riding/lessons but its tough with little ones, especially two! (I feel your pain!)
I know a few ladies that do data entry for companies from home. One is medical and one is for the fire department. I have no earthly idea how they got started in this, but it could be something to look into. [=
What DOES interest you? (Other than horses of course.. We know that part!)
Did you know there are people who ship their saddles off to be cleaned? Maybe you could clean/restore tack, if that is something you enjoy. |

I'd really like to write a book, but I can't ever get more than a chapter or two out.
I do volunteer around our community, but I'd really like to have an income. My husband makes enough to support our every day needs, but I do really enjoy all the "extras" - and I wish I had my own "extra money" to pay for them. Lol |

Location: My own little world :) | I became a Silpada Jewelry Representative....I know it may not be super demanding in the education/qualification department but you can do just as much as you like and set your own schedule. And an added bonus is that you get lots of free jewelry!
I'm not sure how old your little one(s) is/are but I know for me it just goes by so fast and I feel like if I can raise a great kid there is no better accomplishment than that. Enjoy everyday you have with them because pretty soon they will be out on their own :) |

Could you use Skype to tutor? Then no one would have to travel but there would still be "face to face" interaction. I also think there is a website that you can do online tutoring through. |

| You could contact some horse magazines or community newspapers. I know one person who does layout for a horse magazine from home on her computer, and I know someone who is editor of a newspaper in a town that he doesn't even live in. It's all done over computer. |

Location: Mississippi | As a somewhat...ahem...."older" woman, can I offer some advice? Use this time when your kids are young to get a Master's degree (you can do it online). When you do return to the job market when your kids are older, you will have more options. Enjoy this time in your life with your children! |

I'm in the process of getting into (fingers crossed) a very rigorous masters program.
There's a few hoops to be jumped through, and I'm working on that now. |

On kind of the same line, maybe being a support for a virtual school system? There was a virtual system (K12 or There are some others) that was looking for occupational therapists, much of the work they wanted would be able to be do a at home (virtually). I'm not sure about teaching, but may be something to look into? |

I think that is a good idea. I have a 2 year old boy that loves to be read to. The books that he and his mom pick out at the library...well lets just say as long as the message is nice, it doesn't matter how well it is written. You could get Sarajean to do the illistrations. |
