I just had a major DUH moment and have come to the conclusion my skinny, lazy, cinchy mare most likely has ulcers. We can get omeprazole paste from the vet for 100ish bucks. Are there any more cheaper/more effective treatments for stomach ulcers out there?? I've seen a ton of things from searching through threads but I want to know the one that'll give the most bang for my buck.

this was on facebook this morning. I personally use GastroPLUS with excellent results. So this is one option for you. Thank you Art Sherman for asking us to put our logo on your cooler for the favorite of the Kentucky Derby and a possible Triple Crown winner, California Chrome! So happy and blessed to be part of an AMAZING team. Wishing this team the best of luck! Look for them in the races!

My vet recommended U Gard. It's cheap and it will work. But the treatment is only part of the puzzle. You will need to feed low starch feed. Hay should be 24/7 or make sure they have turn out. I feed Renew Gold to my ulcer prone horse. She looks amazing and you only feed 1lb a day.

Yep I agree with the low starch feed. Triple crown low starch is great as my horse wouldn't touch renew gold! But I've heard renew gold is really good for them you might try that first? My vets get me a huge tub of olmeprazole for $125, it lasts me a couple months. I think it comes from Kentucky? Any vet should be able to get it, or pm me and I can get you my vets number, it's inexpensive and is the exact same ingredient as gastro guard and ulcer guard. It's in a powder form, tasteless, and I mix it with flax seed oil in with my triple crown. One of the vets I went to at ESMS said there's something about the oil that coats their stomach. There's also some really great feed called Haystack Special Blend, $14/bag? it comes from Oregon so I'm not sure if you can get it elsewhere but it's high fat low starch. I mix half triple crown and half of haystack. The haystack is amazing. All the cutting horses I ride at work are so shiney and fat :) . I was also pleasantly surprised with Uncles Happy Horse Gut Protector http://www.uncleshappyhorse.com/Gut-Protector-One-Gallon.html my friend sells it and I tried it, not bad, $145 a gallon, lasts about a month and they will eat it up....I'd still stick with olmeprazole first and foremost.... My vet also recommended ultium, as a daily feed, but my horse is picky and won't eat it..... any questions pm me :)

Sometimes cheap isn't the best way to achive the result you want but UlcerCure OTC is very economical and I guarantee that if your horse has ulcers and you treat it right the ulcers will be healed.  There is a banner at the top on BHW.
$150 to treat ulcers is a bargain!

GastroPLUS! Get rid of the ulcers the first time! Without adverse effects like protein entropy as well as over production of acid because of lack of production. It is truly genius how it gets rid of ulcers and keeps them away.

I think U Guard is very effective , inexpensive and am happy with it.   24 hour access to grain and low starch feed in addition.

I use THE Gastro Plus and have had good results so far. Also, I switched my feed to triple crown senior. My mare is not cinchy now, no signs of stomach trouble with the new grass coming in and i can rub on her tummy without her flinching. It's is low cost with treating your horse with what they need. You can add other supplements to THE also. Not everyone has the same results with all the different meds out there but this is worth the try. Especially for the $$. There are a few dealers on here but I get mine from wyoming barrel racer.

Aloe Vera Juice. 1 cup once a day. You can get a gallon of it from Walmart for like $6. But make sure it's the unflavored kind. That's what my vet recommends and I've been using for 5 or so years and never had a problem.

Bristow vet clinic recommends draw they had me use 25cc a day for 1 month then 25cc every other day 2nd month then 25cc 2-3x a week and it made a huge difference in the first 3 days - I had used ulcer guard in the past did not see the results I seen with the draw and its natural and not hard on their bones- I highly recommend and it cost me about $90 for the first THREE months
then its about $30 a month( if that)

Funny, she eats Renew Gold. (: I talked with my vet today and i'm just going to bump up her alfalfa and if it doesn't work i will get some more of whatever he recommends lol. I've used it on my horses before and I have always seen results, its a 6 day treatment and its 100 or so bucks.. I always hear people buying their own ulcer treatment and I was wondering what kind of prices or cost effectiveness you were getting from them.

Why low starch feed?

Starch is hard to break down in the gut. So the stomach produces more acid to try to break down the starches and sugars in the feed, which causes more issues with an already ulcer prone horse.

High starch feeds along with stress cause ulcers. Both cause large amounts of acid in the gut. Sweet feeds are usually the bad guys but any feed with corn and heavy amounts of oats and barley are VERY high in starch. Corn can add up to 20% more starch to a feed just by itself.

The only way to treat ulcers is by omeprazole. I've always had luck with THE so I wouldn't hesitate to try their GastroPLUS. But aloe Vera juice will NOT treat ulcers. And alfalfa is great but it will not TREAT ulcers. It will just coat the stomach and mask the symptoms.
