I think the angle of the pic makes it tough to tell. The way the pic is taken she is pretty straight up in her shoulder for my liking. I like her head but the pic may be decieveing as to the length of her neck.

Thank you! I added a few more pictures, will take some better ones on level ground later today. I noticed that she's pretty upright in the shoulder too, but it doesn't seem to hinder her movement.

Also keep in mind that she is very undermuscled as she hasn't been in work for many years.

I'm not a huge fan of the way her hind end is put together and her shoulder is pretty straight...

Thank you :) Is it the way her hocks are angled?

I prefer a horse with a round, compact hiney. IMO I think it helps them to better be able to get their butt up underneath them when working cows or barrel racing. They've always seemed to be a bit more catty as well. Just personal preference, not trying to say there's anything wrong with your girl.

Gotcha I prefer that too! I'm hoping that with getting her into an exercise program.. She will get a bit bigger of a bum. *crossing my fingers*. She also is naturally very light on the forehand so that should help a bit.

Also another factor is that she is huge! Around 16.2 or 16.3.. I guess doesn't hurt to try :)

I don't like her booty and she is standing forward in a couple of pictures. That concerns me. But.....almost any horse can run the barrels, just depends on how good you want to be. I don't think you are going to make the NFR on her.

Thank you. Yeah she was standing a bit funny.. Will try to get better pictures with her standing normal.
Definitely wasn't thinking she'd be NFR material.. Neither am I haha! Would be for local barrel races/jackpots, possibly rodeos in the future if we were good enough :)

LOL...well, then she should be fine. As long as your dreams are realistic, then why not her.

I think you need to turn her into an english horse. She's got a nice build for Dressage work. Barrels, I'm sure she can do it. She doesn't have any big faults that jumped out at me. She is pretty uphill built and flatter crouped like a lot of dressage horses you see out there. Is she a TB or QH?

Too heavy in the front end for me. Shoulder is a little too steep. Forearm is too short, hocks are too high. Back is too long in proportion to underline.

Not one I would buy

I say dream big, have expectations and goals, and go for it.  I've seen alot of horses with less than stellar conformation be remarkable barrel horses, calf horses, cutters, and anything else.  Is she going to win a halter class, probably not, but I say if she's sound and good minded, go for it and shoot for the stars!  My theory is you gotta try em all, as you never know which ones will make it.

First thing that jumps out at me is "dang it looks cold"  I'd have to move further south, oh wait I already did.  Personally, I've had good luck with uphill horses and even prefer them to downhillers.  I'd certainly try her.  What have you got to lose?  Keep us updated.

Very true! I am definitely an optimistic person. There are many quarter horses who fail at barrel racing, even ones bred for it. Its up to the individual and I guess only time will tell. :) *crossing fingers*
