I'm about 3 hours west of New Orleans, we go a time or two during the year, French market area there are numerous art shops, museums, there is the famous cafe du'mone they sell beginets which is like a square doughnut with powdered sugar and chicory
( flavored coffee
), seafood places are good general gorcery has an awesome muflalotta, ever had crawfish, try some at least once! If you like nite life and alcoholic beverages, down town burbon is filled at night, but very dirty and riskay not for children or the faint of heart! Be aware of your surroundings and always stay in groups, cemetery tours are boring, but the buggy rides take you thur the old historic districts. If you appreciate architecture and history.

I've been there several times and LOVE it! My cousins went there this past fall and they went out of town to see a real plantation from the 1800's. They said that was amazing and I wish I would have seen it when I was there. I LOVE the Cajun food and the alligator tour was a BLAST!! There is a lot of fun bars and clubs to go to as well. Some of the hotels are kinda crappy so make sure to look at the rooms first. People are up all night in New Orleans! I also REALLY enjoyed driving on the bridges. The Aquarium is cool as well. Have fun!! Jealous!!

We stayed for 3 days in January before leaving on a cruise out of the port of New Orleans. We stayed at the Drury and it was a super great location. A few blocks on foot will take you to the French Quarter and the trolleys. About two blocks away is a huge grocery store to stock up on anything you might need. For us it was a few bottles of wine for our cruise. It was a lot of fun.
