Location: The end of the Earth, SE AR | We were thinking of going over later this week to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assoc. National Finals in Tunica MS. I know there are several BHW folks that participate in Mounted Shooting and wondered who might be at the finals this week that I could look up?

Location: You never know where I will show up...... | It's actually not a 'finals', that is in the fall. They just call the show the "nationals" for some reason. But since it is one of the biggest CMSA shows, there will be some of the best shooters in the country there so if you get a chance to go watch it would be worth it! We never get to attend any of the early shows like this one because we are busy calving and breeding but we go to the later summer & fall ones. The World Finals is in October in Amarillo and we go to that one every fall.

Location: ND | Nope, sitting at home & will be watching it on the live feed. I've only managed to practice once since November so the drive to Nationals wasn't to appealing....who knows, maybe next year.

We are a little over an hour west of Tunica and have LQ hookups and extra stalls and our horses are all used to gunfire since my husband's shooting bench for his range is behind the barn. If you need a little stopping off place we are here for you!

But from the looks of it the "best" of the show will be Friday night?
Here's the schedule :
THURSDAY 4/17

FRIDAY 4/18

• 30 Minutes after Stage 3: Stage 4, Arena 2: Wranglers, Class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
• 6:30 PM Wrangler Ground Shooting, 2 stages
• 7:00 PM Main Arena: Starline Showcase
- Sponsor Flag Presentation.
- Cimarron Eliminator - Top 10 Limited Division
- Top 5 Cavalry Finals
- Platinum Performance Senior Incentive Finals
- Top 5 Cimarron Shotgun Finals
- Top 10 Taylor’s & Company Rifle Finals
- Cimarron Eliminator - Top 10 Open Division
Saturday 4/19
• 8:00 AM Main Arena: Stage 5: Wranglers, Class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
• Main Arena: 30 minutes after Stage 5: Montana Silversmiths Double Down Incentive Finals
• 30 Minutes after finals: Awards Ceremony.
I would go Friday evening if I was you. If I was there I'd spend the entire 3 days watching every run because I'm weird & like to analize everyones techniques.....which honestly, that's what I'll be doing from my computer! But for someone who's not completely hooked on the sport watching 300 runs on the same pattern could get a little boring & that's what you'll be seeing in the morning/afternoon performances.

Location: Colorado plains standing on a goat head! | Not going again this year, I have never competed in Tunica, someday maybe. Historically, the National Championships have been in the spring and the World Championships has been in the fall/winter. I believe there were a couple of National Championships before there was the first Worlds in '95 or '96. Those were the two main shoots CMSA put on, now they have several big shoots across the country they host/run.
There are usually good vendors, some gun vendors like Colt and Taylor, some clothing and tack. Not a large vendor show, but some good stuff. The showcase on Friday night is great watching, some variety and very exciting. They are running in two arenas so the shooters run both stages in less than an hour. I do like watching the main match during the day for the horses and shooters!
If you have questions, feel free to ask, shooters are a very friendly bunch!

Location: The end of the Earth, SE AR | Okay, ladies, my husband has been wanting to get into this for some time. He's a gun and pistol nut and has a Ruger Vaquero that has had a trigger job and several other cowboy shooting type pistols that I don't recall the names of. He wants to buy another pistol to be his regular mounted shooting pistol. He is finicky about guns and pistols and works on his own He was looking at replicas because of the costs but I have always been a believer in getting quality. A CMSA member told him to get the Colt. He's concernred about the money. What do you shoot and what would you advise someone like him to buy?

If his Ruger Vaquero is a 45 with fixed sights, I would recommend another one of those depending on the barrel length. For my money the Rugers are the best. I have been shooting them for 18 years with only a couple of minor issues. Most people are going with 3-4" barrels and lowered hammers like the Ruger Montado. Colts are great guns but I like the durability, dependability and price of the Rugers. I have also seen many people go cheap on their first set of guns and it is an expensive decision. For the first set of holsters I would go cheaper until he figures out exactly what he wants and where he wants to carry them. We all have different body styles and preferences. Also, I would recommend having a mounted shooter AND gunsmith give him advice on the action jobs on the revolvers, speaking from bad experiences here! It is much different than what you would do for a bench rest or even a quick draw gun. Holler if I can answer any other questions!

I shoot Rugers too ... solid solid guns! They are worth the money and in the long run a good buy that will hold their value.

| If you're close, go watch the Friday night showcase. CMSA has certainly upped their game with the pomp and circumstance. The lights, the announcing, the "smoke" when they announce past years winners .... awesome stuff! The runs will be the best of the best on Friday night with a load of money to be won so people will be going all out too.
I wish I could make it over this year ... shot at it last year and HAD A FABULOUS time! I also shot at Vegas and had a great time there too. Soooo I'll just pull up a chair, eat my popcorn, and watch the live feed from home this year - oh yeah and yelling loud enough to scare everything in my house because two of my traveling partners will be shooting!! Woop Woop!!!

I wonder if they have any good vendors.Â
We have a Platinum/Outlaw trailer set up there. Mark got to go down and miss the snow. Stop by and see him. If you need me to, I can ask him to let me know what there is vendor wise. Wish I could be there to meet all the BHW people, that is always fun to meet in person.
