Location: WV | Our new pup is 6 weeks old. Just a little guy and boy r we having issues with pee time. I know he is little and we take him out a lot. No sooner than we come back in or out of no where it seems like he will pee in the house. Since this is younger than I have ever had, what is the norm for pups? Any tips and idea's to help us out? He actually went on the couch, which is a big no no.  Thank goodness it is leather but still no reason. We were right there and I was getting up to take him out and he just squatted and went right there.  |

Location: WV | Our other dogs was like 14 weeks when we bought him and we only have like 3 accident's in the house and he was trained. So this is frustrating. |

Location: Midwest | I'm not sure they have a ton of control at that age. That's pretty young. Ours was 8-10 weeks when we got him, and those first couple weeks he still have many accidents. We kept him in a playpen and basically lined it with puppy pads to help save our floor, in addition to taking him out as much as possible and doing all the regular potty training things.
I think that is kind of normal for that age to just sort of go. Hang in there, mom! :) |

Location: At the Brownderosa | I have just had my pup about a month now - he was 7 wks when I got him. When I'm home with him, I try to take him out every 1/2 hour to hour. He is in a smaller kennel when I'm not home & he is really good not to potty or poop in his kennel. I do try get up about 1 am to let him out then again when I wake up at 5 am to get ready for work-also I work close enough to home to run home at lunch to let him out so he's really only in the kennel 4 hrs at a time. Limit his space he's allowed to roam in the house & have to watch for the sniffing around signs but taking him out & praising him a lot (& treats on occasion) when he does go out has really worked on mine. He'll be 11 wks on Sunday - last night I didn't wake up at 1 am to let him out like I have been but woke up & it was 4 am - no accident in his kennel so I was pretty happy about that. My pup is very food motivated so give him treats when he does his business outside if yours is food motivated. I've been working with him on sitting, staying, laying, heeling & fetching which he knows how to do pretty much all of those quite well by now giving him treats & lots of praise. |

Location: WV | I know he is really young and I never thought of someone letting one go so early. He was my birthday gift from my parents and they surprised me with him. I have only talked to the breeder. It really is like having a baby all over again but we enjoy having him and know this to shall pass. Thanks guys for all the suggestions. |

| I've come to find out boy puppies pee twice. I have a 9wk old abd if I don't wait for him to pee twice outside he will go inside. |

Don't give him any water after 6 PM so that he can survive the night. You can choose to isloate him in a certain room overnight that he will pee in, or (what my husband and I did with our pup) and keep the pup in the small kennel. They won't pee in their own kennel if they have to lay in it. First thing in the morning (early) get them outside to pee.
If they pee in the house, scold them. Yes, they do have a hard time controlling their bladder at that age, but they do need to start making the connection that they are NOT supposed to go in the house.

| I think crate training helps a lot. We have a 12 week old bull mastiff And she picked up the crate training fast. |

AGREE! you have to put A LOT of work into them at first! it will be worth it! I bring home a new foster dog about every other week and most aren't housetrained, I'm with them every second for a while and never leave them alone in the house! |

Location: oklahoma | I don't scold ours, it's a natural function and well, I just don't believe in it because we're either not taking them out frequent enough or long enough,more both, lol We've had great success with crate training and most come with a divider that you can just have him sleep in a small section and it grows with him. If they only have room to turn around at night, they won't mess their crates. Our last pup, a gsd, would try to race us back to the door at 4 a.m. Without pottying and I'd take him back out to grass until he went potty, no matter if it took 15 minutes or 30. It really is like having a baby and patience and tenacity is the key. No water or food after 5 p.m either. Good luck! He only had two accidents since he was 6 weeks old and that was on my husbands watch. Football was on, lol |

Location: stuck on an island, Canada | A six week old puppy cannot last the whole night, he will need to go out at least once or twice. A puppy that young really can't hold it for more than a couple hours, wether he's in a crate or not.

Baby will need some time to build up the ability to hold it, and sometimes they just do the "oops, i forgot to go outside" thing. Patience, patience and more patience. Take him outside often, praise him when he goes outside, do not punish for going inside. He'll learn. |

Location: Pa | I just saw something on FB about a "puppy condo". Look it up or google it. It's basically a crate with a small area for the puppy to sleep, and a divder with a larger area to use as a restroom. I didn't catch the price, but if it's pricey and you don't want to spend the money, you might be able to get creative. =]
