Location: Texas | Does anyone have any recommendations for a full neck (preferably attached) fly sheet for turn out? Must be durable, very breathable but also block UV rays. (I searched but didn't find much discussion in the past year.) Thanks |

| Kensingtons are the best! They protect against UV rays and are super durable. They may be a bit spendy but they last. I have had one of mine for over 5 years and not a single tear or snag. You can buy the neck attachment separate. |

Location: Texas | I just read two reviews on the Kool Coat Airstream on Doversaddlery.com that both said they were VERY hot and not breathable. Has this not been your experience? I am in central Texas so need something that is breathable during the 100+ degree days.

They also come with a warranty and are great about sticking with it. I had a horse catch the chest part on a gate and rip it really bad. They sent me a new one and all I paid was shipping.  |

I live in south Tx, they get a little sweaty under but not bad and they are out in the pasture. I have an expensive weatherbeeta and they sweat like crazy under it. I did my research before I bought mine and there are way more positive reviews than negative. Also, when its 100+ they are going to be hot and sweaty even without a fly sheet on.

| I bought several DEFENDERS which are turnouts. My horses had them on all summer. They did not get hot in Texas heat. I bought two of some better known brands and they rubbed my horses' shoulders raw. The DEFENDER does not rub.
I do want to remind everyone to pull your fly sheets off at least once a week to make sure they are not rubbing. You can get some serious sores in a matter of a day or two. |

Location: Northern CA | I love, love, love the fly sheets from Schiender's. They are tough and durable, fit well and don't slip around, and did a great job of protecting my palomino's hair coat. They seemed a little pricey to me, but well worth it. I bought 2 last spring and used them all summer, 24-7. They are still in excellent condition. The only I gripe I have about them, the lined shoulders seem to get a little hotter than I like, but my horses never seemed uncomfortable, even in the middle of summer. |

Location: Lala Land | I really like the Big D sheets..... they are super light mesh and keep my horses coat from fading. Not sure on the UV deal. The problem I have is my horse needs a european cut with a deeper chest, so they don't work for him. I haven't had any problems on any other horses though.
I was looking into trying the weatherbeta Genero or the Cashel sheet.
Edited to add: I have the Weatherbeeta Dura-Mesh and it's way to heavy for hot/humid Austin. After about 85 degree + he will sweat under it.

Location: Texas | Thanks everyone for the feedback. Good gosh there a thousands of fly sheets on the market. Very hard to decide which one!
I am focusing on ones that have either an attached neck or a seperate neck that can be attached. I will be using it to keep my palominos from fading so must have good UV protection as well as keep biting insects out. And must be as breathable or cool as possible for Texas.

http://www.turtleneck.biz/flyaway-turtle.html Wouldn't work for me... doesn't look like it would be very good for blocking sun, although it does say it blocks 60% UV. But you can see right through it so I would think the UV rays could shine right thru it as well.

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I have tried most and the Koolcoat made my horses sweat here in WY so that isn't going to work well in TX. I needed a great UV sheet for my show horse and I wanted one that would hold up so I could turn him out some in pasture too. The kensington was the best one. I use the detachable neck covers too. He spends from about 8 am to 5pm in the barn and the rest of the time out in the pasture through the night. This was him in Sep showing he never faded at all. Fading is a HUGE no no for show horses and I doubt most people let theirs out of the barn.

I was really not even considering the Kensingtons cuz the material seems so hard and not very comfortable or body conforming. But this has really made me think twice. They are quite expensive though, with the neck piece they are $178 and I need to buy two!!!
I was leaning towards the Amigo Mio for $69.99 or the Amigo Stock Horse for $75. Or Jeffers has a Dura-Mesh Detach A Neck for $125.
