Do you tip your housekeeper? If so do you tip daily or when your checking out? Also, how much?

I dont think they are allowed to take any money from the room so not sure how you would do that..possibly add it to bill but truth be known I doubt theyd end up with it.

The thing is I am traveling with another lady and we are sharing a suite. We will have our own bedroom but share a bathroom and kitchen. I know from eating out with her that she doesn't tip or if she is forced into it it's small. I do tip but I don't feel I should tip for the whole suite. I was thinking I'd leave the envelope in my room where she will see it. I've just never known if I should do this daily or when I leave.

I always tip. $2 per person per night. You put the money on the bed and they know it's for the tip. If you don't leave it on the bed then they are not supposed to touch any money.

I have a friend that waits until check out to tip for the stay. That's fine but it doesn't the attention that tipping everyday gets during your stay. Most people don't tip the housekeepers so they appreaciate the ones that do tip.

We stayed in a suite with another couple in Key West in January. I tip everyday by putting the money on the bed. They other couple are ones to tip at the end of the stay,

We were there a week. They made our room up first everyday and made sure we had extra towells and such. The other couple had to ask for towells.

Althought the other couple tipped just as much as us or more, the housekeepers didn't know they were going to get a tip from them.

I tip if the room is super clean and is kept that way, I used to do housekeeping for several hotels and always appericated being tipped.
If you are staying several days, tip daily if just one night leave tip in room. :-) It always brightened my day when I recieved one.

I don't tip.  I also put out the do not disturb sign to keep them out until I leave.  If I want more towels, I will go find some.  Creeps me out to have someone in my room while I'm not there...

Used to tip at the end of my stay but realized when we went to Vegas you don't get the same housekeeper, so if you're having someone clean, leave a tip for them to take. Up to 5 dollars a day otherwise I feel cheap. But honestly I have turned into the girl that has to "pre-clean" the room before I leave and just leave the privacy hanger on the door and just reuse my towels unless they are really soaked or something so I will leave a tip at the end of my stay. I didn't know they weren't allowed to take money in certain places.

I got the envelope idea because one year a housekeeper left one with a note giving her name and if I needed anything she'd be glad to help me. I'm glad she did because I'm sorry to say I never thought of tipping them. I just don't stay in motels often enough to realize.

This motel is individually owned and most of their employees have been there for years. It's my 3rd year to stay there. I've always left $20 on my last day. But this is my first year to share a suite and it did cross my mind we might not have the same one each day. So, would you do $5 a day or $10? $10 seems like a lot. I'm not very messy but I suspect from seeing her house that the girl going with me is very messy.

Had some stuff that went missing and you could tell that my friends suitecase had been gone threw, and this turned out to be a big mess, so be very careful of the places you stay in.

I always do 3-5 per day and leave a note that says housekeeping so they know it's theirs to take.  I'm a Holiday Inn Express girl and have never felt creeped out like a maids going to go threw my stuff.  Plus, I usually take my laptop, Kindle, etc with me so there's nothing of value left in the room when I leave for a day.

I travel a lot. I never tip a maid unless we are staying at a resort for several days or longer AND tipping is customary. I ALWAYS tip at restaurants, baggage handlers, etc, but nada at motels/hotels. They are paid at least minimum salary like everyone else in this country, right?

I've never tipped my housekeepers before. I guess I never really thought of it. But I usually leave the do not disturb up so they don't come in.
