Location: Kentucky | Kentucky summers can be brutal so I'm thinking of stalling horses during the day, and turning them out at night. For those of you that stall during the day, do you find your horses happier inside? I will have fans on them and the barn doors open, but it's still not going to be "cool" inside. The flies will be off of them as well. |

It's 70-80s now so I haven't started yet, they are still in at night/out during day. I'll probably start around June or so. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | When we get the real hot humid days with no breeze and tons of flies and mosquitos I put mine in the barn. They all have fans in there and better than the sun baking them and stomping flies. Hard on their feet/shoeing plus they lose weight. Yes I think they are happy as clams.  |

| I'm down in Texas now and have started stalling during the day. It's been getting into the upper 80s/lower 90s and I think they have enjoyed being in during the day. Don't get me wrong, they are ready to go out in the evening, but are right at the gate waiting to get in their stalls in the mornings. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | On another note my brother shows Clydesdales. His horses get stalled during the day so they do't bleach out. When the barn opens in the morning they're on a mission to get to their stall and be out of the heat and flies. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | Mine stay stalled during the day and out at night year round. It is way cooler for them in the summer to be in the barn. But I do it mostly so there color won't fade. I don't like sorrel horses and a faded out sorrel horse is even worse. Keeps my bay almost black and my buckskin a dark buckskin. |

Location: MD | Mine have the cushy life, they are put up with fans during the day and they are much happier this way. Most of the time I find them sleeping the day away. I think standing out all day, sweating and stomping at all the bugs makes them more irritable and I don't blame them. Plus, like someone else said, it's hard on their feet and bodies. I don't care what anyone says, there is not one fly spray available that will last all day on a horse. Also, if I don't turn them in I find them standing by the gate waiting to be turned in if it's miserable outside. |

| Mine LOVE it. I have one gelding that bangs on the barn if I am late getting them up. I have an open barn, built for the heat, solid north wall to block cold north wind in the winter but no walls on other 3 sides. They have 15 x 15 stalls that don't have back walls, open to big 40x50 runs so they could go out if they wanted too but they stay under the fans, even without the fans there is a southern breeze. I don't work so I will put them up around noon each day, they are standing at the barn waiting even though they have big shade tress on 80 acres.

She would stand in front of that fan for hours...sleeping |

Location: LuluLand~along I64 Indiana | i keep mine in most of the summer. i have a $10thermomoter in my barn and its always cooler in there. they have alot of ventalation and fans. i also have a big fan in the alley way to move air thru. |

| I have a huge pasture and live on a ridge so they normally have a nice breeze with their huge shade trees so they dont come in. the other horses that are not in that pasture they come in with the fans. anything i do not want bleached come in and go out at night. |

We have this but NO humidity. Just hot and dry. August we usually have a week or 2 of 100-105 temps with no breeze. At that point I don't know what is better. I open the end doors so the 2 that I do leave inside get some air, but when it gets that hot without air, they are just miserable anywhere. I figure at the very least, the sun isn't directly on them. I plan to get a fan or 2 this summer. I also worry about the stomping feet because of flies. |

Location: Arkansas | I leave a gate open to a large stall 24/7 so that at anytime they can get in the shade or have a wind block. They rarely ever go in until the temperatures warm up and then they never leave! I have fans up and even if they aren't on, the horses still come in the barn. My philosophy is that they know where they are the most comfortable, and in the summer months that seems to be the barn! |

| We are lucky at the moment, we have a barn where the stall doors turn out into the lot. We have 3 stalls and 2 horses. We leave the third stall door open and put up 2 fans. They both go in that stall and stand in front of their fans, but that way they can come and go as they please for more exercise and freedom. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I usually start night time turnout this time of year. Unless it get 98 or above, I don't keep fans on them. One, I don't like leaving with something electric plugged in at my barn. Two, I feel like keeping a fan on them all the time makes them a little less hardy. Mine do seem to handle the heat better than a lot of show horses that we're around. If you think about it, if you haul out to a show during the day you can't keep a fan on them while they're tied out in the parking lot.
It does seem like they get more fly bites, etc while they're out during the day during the summer months. So that's one advantage to the night time turnout.
The only bad side that I see is that when it storms really bad in the middle of the night..... I've gone out many, many times in middle of the night in my nightgown chasing horses while it's lightening trying to get them in.  |

Location: Florida.. | always brought mine in summer months.. fans and windows open and doors at end of barn so lots of air flow , they loved coming in.They would eat then munch on their hay and with fresh shavings they would nap.. .. I put them out at dinner time..
