| Thanks. He is a cutie for sure. I am not overly excited about 3 dogs but I got outvoted. He did pretty good last night, put him in his crate about 10:30, he woke up at 1:00 to go out and he did his business and then back in and he only whined for maybe 5 minutes tops, then he slept until 5:30 this morning so not too bad. Hopefully that trend continues! |

Location: Northern CA | We raised GWP when I was a kid. I love them! Wanted to get another a few years ago, but couldn't find one within 200 miles for less than $800. So now I have a GSP/English cross. I do love the pointers! |

| halter_ego - 2014-04-28 10:53 AM We raised GWP when I was a kid. I love them! Wanted to get another a few years ago, but couldn't find one within 200 miles for less than $800. So now I have a GSP/English cross. I do love the pointers! My husband had a shorthair growing up and we had another one shortly after we got married. After we lost her my husband started doing some research on the wirehairs and decided he would like to try one. Si is our second as we love Gus our older one. He is a bird hunting MACHINE and the GWP's do seem to be a little bit more mellow when they are not hunting than the GSPs. I do like them all though. By the way - there are two more available from this litter if you are interested - reasonable price but it may be a ways for you to travel. :)

| Bravo! No that's a fine looking birddog! The only thing better than walking behind a bird dog is walking behind a brace. |

| I'm envious, by the way. My last GSP finally wore out last month. All I have now is a lab. |

| Sorry TXBO, about your GSP. It's sure hard when we have to let them go. There are two more out of this litter - time for a GWP for you? Road trip to Idaho? And hotbear thanks - he is a cute little schmidt. :) We'll see if I still think that after I find something chewed up that isn't supposed to be. |

I'd love to get a couple more but not right now. I have a fairly new business venture that doesn't allow me enough access to birds right now. It's hard to train a dog correctly without constant exposure to bird. Just wouldn't be fair to the dog. |

I sure understand that TXBO - birds are the key for the development of a young pup. Best thing we ever did was join a place to hunt birds September (though it's still too hot for us) through mid-April. We did not renew this year but have some friends within a few miles that raise pheasant so this pup is going to get the birds he needs. And the wild population is picking back up again as well. Can't wait for the two of them to hunt together!! I shall pester you with hunting pictures this fall. :) |

| They really do instinctively point. When we got Gus the breeder told us to really work on commands and that he would "teach himself" on birds. I kind of scoffed at that but she was not wrong. First time out he was a bit of a yahoo, but the 2nd trip out - the swtich was flipped - automatic and he has been a machine ever since. We have done our own "training" and learned a lot so hopefully this new pup will be even better. As I told TXBO - I'll probably bore you with hunting updates this fall. :) |
