Please say a little prayer for my horse Tucson.  He has been battling a bad infection in his shoulder and the strongest antibiotic is not working- it has been 6 weeks now. yesterday he was very uninterested in food or people so now they are going to try Naxcel- it will either help him or kill him. If he gets severe diahrrea  I will have to make the decision to end it all. He is only 9. The infection is so deep they can't see it in xrays or ultra sound. Thank you all, your prayers always seem to work.

Is it a probiotic?  I know they gave him a probiotic before shooting the Naxcel.  Thank you for the suggestion, I will ask.  He has been at the vets for 6 weeks.

Thinking of you!

I had a horse on Naxcel for two rounds and had a lot of success with it! Hope he gets better!!

I second a probiotic or some supplement. Started my horse on Forco!

Has the infection been cultured? How did the horse get the infection? Has the horse been in intravenous antibiotics?

One other think to ask the vet is about doing formaldehyde intravenous. Had one horse develop an abscess on his neck, unknown origin, the vet swabbed and treated intravenous with formaldehyde. The culture came back as clostridium botulinum and after treatment he healed well no scar.
