Location: North Dakota | Anyone have any experience with the equine vet clinic in Grand Island, NE? I know of some people form up here that had great experiences and I am considering making the haul. I have a horse with bad SI and stilfe pain and I want some answers and options to help get her back on the rodeo road. How are their prices? Is this the right place to take her? Experiences???

My farrier said he knows a guy that took a horse from northern MN down there for surgery and the entire trip cost him $1200! That was pretty impressive. |

| I am in Montana but used Dr Brunk when we were racing. I almost hauled my mare to him last year to get checked out. He always did good for us. |

Location: North Dakota | Have you tried local vets? I would give Dr. Carlson at Southwood in Jamestown a call and visit with him, he probably would tell you what his thoughts were as to whether he could help you or not. |

Yes and I don't know if any local vets that will truly know what is going on with her. I want someone that I know has seen thousands of horses and has experience with this. I have spent thousands at local vets. They just do not seem to have enough experience to really be able to get me answers or tell me something I don't already know. I usually end up telling them what is wrong with my horses in the end. Or they do not have the equipment that is needed so I end up getting sent somewhere else anyways. |

She used to work at Elbow Lake....I can't remember who it is though. Looking at the reviews and recs from here though it looks like Grand Island wounldn't be a wasted trip. |

Location: Nebraska | Personally, I haven't had any luck with Brunk. I know a lot of people that have and he's done wonders for them. I'm 0/2 with him. I do agree that he has a great eye for lameness, just didn't solve my problems or even come close to it. I thought his prices were great and I liked how they gave me a cd of all my xrays. I don't know if it's because I look a lot younger than I am, but I don't feel like I was taken seriously. I made an appointment to have my mare's suspensory ultrasounded and he told me there was no way that it was a suspensory because she wasn't lame when I hauled her in. I had another vet tell me it was the suspensory. He told me it was most definitely in the front and brushed me off when I question why she flexed lame in the back. That just rubbed me the wrong way. Other people have had great luck with him, though. |

Oakes does have a very good vet. I have used her many many times since she is only about 10 miles from me. |

I have a 2nd for Dr Turner. I just hung up from a great friend of mine in Aberdeen who hauled her young mare to Dr Turner and she had the greatest experience. Lameness exam, xrayed the entire mare and injected her stifles for $1200. I didn't think that sounded too bad. Carole said he was the nicest man and very personable. |

$1200?????? Glad i live in TX...my vet would charge $35 for a lameness exam, $150 for both stifles, and to do massive xrays would be maybe $300...total $485. Best vet in East TX. Sorry about your luck... |

| I am in Nebraska, and it seems people either love or hate Dr. Brunk. I have started using Dr. Schultz at Sand Creek Vet Clinic (address is Woonsocket, but is south of Huron) for lameness. Have you tried him? He is amazing! Amy Schimke has used him extensively for lameness, and recommended him to me. He is my first choice--really takes his time with your horse, and knows his stuff. He is cheaper than Dr. Brunk too, in my experience.
You should also consider Dr. Mez in Spearfish--he seems to be considered the best of the best in our area. I have been to him before as well, and his prices were very fair, and he took lots of time--I think he sat and watched my horse in the round pen for probably half an hour.

Location: North Dakota | Sand Creek would definitely be the closest option. I need someone that can really pinpoint pain and figure out the reason WHY and not just a way to cover it up for a bit. I know she has SI pain and right stifle pain for sure but now I need to figure out what to do to fix it and why it is hurting her. I don't know if she has ligament issue in the SI, arthritis, or what but she is sore there and I know her right stifle is sore as well (which could be secondary to the SI issue). She also has a large dimple that has developed on her left buttcheek (semitendinosus muscle) that is super tight underneath and a swelling on the opposite cheek. So are they related? I have lots of questions and want answers! lol |
