Was she a breeding dog? If not I always recommend a female get spayed just for pyometras alone!
If she was just recently showing symptoms she should be okay! Most dogs come out okay post surgery! :) It's a simple spay so take comfort in that! :)
How old is she? |

Location: Phoenix | She 11. She's had 2 consecutive litters, at least 7 years since her last one though. We neutered the male so we didn't think about fixing her. I will for sure spay my females now just for the health reasons. Poor girl. The ultrasound showed she wasn't totally full of the infection or whatever, but she feels miserable. But what you're saying about the positive outcome is encouraging. Thank you ladies. |

If she is in overall good health then I'd definitely feel positive about it! Plus a vet wouldn't do a surgery on an animal that couldn't handle it! I'm assuming blood work was done to make sure there isn't anything else going on (renal failure, cancer, etc)
Spaying female is important to protect against mammary cancer and pyometras (which are actually pretty common in unspayed females!)
And prostate issues in male dogs is why we want to neuter! And they will get them! Lol.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule :P
My dachshund lived to be 18 years old so to me an 11 year old is still a pup! But I've seen 11 year old doxies in my clinic that were definitely worse for wear and just didn't age well!
Definitely let us know how it goes! Positive thoughts, but I'm confident your girl will be just fine! |

Location: Phoenix | She won't eat anything....anytime she drinks water she pukes it up. Our vet clinic doesn't have an overnight staff so we figured she'd be better off with us. She sure does to feel good. Poor girl. Hope she makes it through the night! |
