I use horse shoes with rope.

It depends on what I am doing with the markers, if I am leaving them in the ground at least two feet.

If I am taking them out after the jackpot 6 inches

Location: North Dakota		I use tent stakes with a thick yellow plastic type rope. I go about 10" to 12" down.

Location: Phoenix		Ditto we have some metal stakes about 14" long, and almost 1" thick. We start hammering in about 4-6 inches down from the surface.
