For the last couple years I've been on the birth control pill but for some reason I can no longer remember to take it! I have a reminder set on my phone but I still forget! I have an appointment this Friday and I'm going to ask about changing. I've been researching the different options and I'm thinking the depo provera shot is what I wanna get. Anybody have it? Give  me the good and that bad! I mostly went on BC because my periods were unbearable at times and they've gotten better since being on it.

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR BIRTH CONTROL!!!! Haha!!! My sweet little 10 month old daughter is a result of that...I didn't know it at the time but she is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me but the timing wasn't super favorable. But thats how life goes and like I said she is wonderful. Anyways...
I thought about getting the shot/implant but I went with the Mirena IUD. It took my body a few months to get used to but now all is well....not really sure if the details are appropriate for on here but when its that time its super light and I don't have the crazy PMS episodes that I used to have ;) And its super dependable obviously...not nearly the chance for sweet little surprises :)

Long term depo use has now been linked to weak or brittle bones, similar to osteoporosis.

Some people who have taken depo have difficulty getting pregnant, as they say the hormone is stored in the fat cells and with any slight weight loss it is released causing early miscarriage or infertility.

One other side effect is weight gain

Find someone with a colicy baby and offer to keep them for 24 hours to give mommy and daddy a break.  It'll not only help the stressed parents but will do wonders for your memory to take your pill.

I've not heard anything good on the Depo shot, but if you are set with that, you may want to talk to your doctor about the side effects.

I couldn't take BC pills because it would kill my stomach, so I got on the Nuva Ring. It's a miracle cure! Loved it. No weight gain, cleared my face up, and of course, no babies!! I was on it for 7-8 years.

I tried the Depo provera injections because I was just sick of taking a pill every morning.  But...I wasn't crazy about it.  I am a thin girl by nature...but I did gain some during that time.  once I quit...the weight came right back off.  Coincidence?  I think it was the shot.

There were other things...but mostly it weirded me out not to have a cycle at all.  I'd always wonder...is it the shot that made me not cycle?  Or am I pregnant!?  Add the weight gain...and I just hated that feeling....wondering.

So...back to the pill...but now I take the Seasonale.  I only have a cycle once every 3 months.  It's FANTASTIC!!!  Love not worrying about it any more often than that.  And no side effects I can identify.
As for remembering.  I have the pack next to my toothbrush.   I am darn sure not gonna forget to brush my teeth in the morning...so I never forget the pill.

I get the depo shot and I LOVE IT!!!!  My biggest fear was that I was going to gain weight but the opposite happened.  In fact, when I am almost due I feel like I start to gain weight.  I have experienced zero side effects and can't tell you how much I am a fan.  I have done several other BC's (pills, ring, insert, etc) and this one by far has been my favorite with the least side effects and has made me feel the best.

I can't have kids so that is not anything I am worried about.  Our primary goal is to keep everything (all women parts) asleep at all times.  This is the least invasive way to accomplish that.

I don't have any issues with brittle bones or anything like that.  In fact, I have been less prone to bruising than before.

I am going to note this: I am WAY healthier than I have been in my life.  I started getting the shot right when I started to eat a lot healthier and I know that has something to do with it.  The hard core exercising just started so there is no correlation there.

Anyways, my doctor tests me for all sorts of things once, sometimes twice a year, including bone density.  NO issues whatsoever for me!

I went with an IUD as well just about a month ago. So far so good! It's so nice not having to take the pill. I was super sensitive to it so if I forgot one day or overslept on a weekend I would always start my cycle early (but never end it early!) super irritating.

I feel better too. I went with paragard since I was super sensitive to the pills, and I still wanted a cycle for comfort of knowing I'm not knocked up.

I love my birth control pill that I am on now.. I switched one time and it was a nightmare.. I haven't heard a lot of good about the shots. A couple of my friends have the implant in their arm and they love it. But I just have to keep my pill pack right by my deodorant, toothbrush, or in my make up bag and that seems to work for me:)

I spotted on the Depo shot for several months before giving it up because it was annoying. I switched to the Nuvaring, have been on it for a few years now and LOVE it!!!

CYA! You would think I would be set...I'm a nanny for a set of twin 5 year old SASSY girls and an 18 month old little girl and my 5 year old nephew and my 3 year old niece are here at least 4 days a week.

Man...I was hoping for some good about the depo shot. I'm just gonna talk to my doctor about different types and what would work best for me. Something about the implanted ones weirds me out but I'm willing to try lol

I've been on depo for 10 years now - newer studies show it doesn't cause brittle bones like previously thought, and they've allowed me to continue to be on it. I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING!!! Never gained weight, or had any weird side effects...now I just have to remember to go in for the shot every 3 months. It's the best!!

I did the IUD. Easiest BC ever! Takes 1 min to insert and theres mild cramps afterwards but nothing horrible. Ive been on it for a year and no surprised pregnancy yet. If you want to get preggo then you can take it out yourself and go from there. No weird side effects or weight gain.

Spent a long time on Depo...would not suggest it as a first choice though it did work for me.

Look into the Implanon.  It's what I had last and I LOVED it.  Considering asking my new doctor if I can go back on it.  Just waiting since I just had surgery two months ago.

do you have any kind of set schedule? I set the alarm on my phone...I usually go to bed around 11, so that's when I set my alarm, and I set my pills with my phone. It worked...I tried taking a pill when I was younger and I couldn't ever remember to take it, even with an alarm set. It's so much easier to remember to take it when you are on a schedule...

I didn't mind the ring. Just set a reminder for every 3 weeks to remove it for a week.
