Vaseline on horses nose to help with inhaling dust?

Had a family tell me yesterday they apply Vaseline on there horses nose before riding in dusty arenas or anywhere dusty. They use it for there horse with dust allergies and heaves. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it?
If so, how often do you apply it and you just do a light layer inside the nostril. I found an article about human's using this to cut down on allergies!

I would think all you'd get is some nasty slimy horse boogers and nice grease spots if your horse gets close to your shirt.
Not saying it doesn't work, but I think it would be messy.

I've heard of putting it on your eyelashes if you wear contacts.
We used to use it on faces to grease them up for halter if we ran out of the "horse" stuff. I'm not sure it would work, but as long as they didn't inhale it I'm sure it would not hurt.

Not vaseline - Vicks. Don't shove it up there. I put it right inside the outer area of the nostril.

I used to put it on every racehorse going out for a work or race. My sister's horse has allergies and it helped him.

I have this stuff made by Formula 707 called Clearex and it works pretty good. It makes him "clear" his nose a lot and sometimes he gets the gunky mucusy stuff out. I'm just always afraid of it ATTRACTING dust when I ride, or making him uncomfortable because it's making him want to blow his nose all the time, so I don't usually use it right before I ride, I usually put it on a few hours before I plan on it. But that's just me, all horses are different. I just know with mine if he's having a bad flare up it kind of gets everything going and wanting to clear out and that probably isn't very enjoyable haha.
