I have for 4 out 5 years now. Didn't think they where doing much then skipped a year. Never ever again. Can hugely cut down on fly spray with them which means less chemicals.

I thought the same thing - skipped a year and was really sorry. Ordered 10,000 per shipment this year for four horses, which is more than recommended, but I want to cover the manure areas out in the pasture better this year. The Spalding labs company has great information on fly control on their website.

I spread the manure right away so I don't have a pile. I just sprinkle mine out in the dry lots where there is the most manure. A manure pile would be a good place to sprinkle them and then where the most manure collects. In my case the dry lot.

I used them for about 5 years and still had flies. I only had 4 horses and bought enough for 6 or 7 so I know I had things covered. I couldn't figure out why I still had a lot of flies until I called the predator supplier and they told me if I had cattle around me anywhere there was no way the predators could keep up with all the flies from the cattle. My neighbors on 3 sides of me have cattle so it's a lost cause. :(

Yes this is my problem too. We have my father in law's sheep in the corral year round so I don't even try them for the barn right next to them. I bought those fly spray deals that spray every few minutes in the barn and they really really help. I use the fly predators around my dog house which is next my house and it makes a world of difference. Still spendy but at least they aren't getting their ears chewed on.

I have chickens that peck through my manure pile....how would that effect them? I don't want them eating the predators.....

I got too late a start to use them here at my new place this year.  But I will definately use them next year.  I used them at my old place and they worked really well.  I was in between two places that had quite a few horses (well a lot more than I had) and I wonderd if this would affect the way they worked.  But they worked great.

Interesting- I always wondered if they worked. We tried them once and couldnt tell much of a difference.

It really is important to start putting them out before the flys appear.  And then stay to the routine of putting them out monthly.  And it was definately better the second year than it was the first.
