My husband's calf horse has high withers and I want to get him a saddle but everything is too wide for him. What have y'all had luck with? We can't be the only people with a run bred calf horse.

We've got a Stoney roping saddle that fits my high withered horse with the dip behind the shoulder.  But that's not very helpful because there aren't that many out there unless you drop some dough.

My hubby's cow/running bred calf horse has high withers, He took his horse to David Barnes Saddlery in Wortham TX  had one custom made to fit him.  fit him great, and what a high quality and beautiful saddle he makes. Takes a while to get one because he hand makes them.

I was afraid that is what people were going to say. He wants to get one custom made at the local tack shop but I know him and he will want to trade it in a couple years and I don't want to lose our butt on a saddle. I want him to get a used martin or double j but we can't find a fit. Guess I will just have to give up and get what his horse needs. At least he is worth the trouble.

The cactus saddles (not the scott thomas ones) are narrower than the martins.....might see if you can find one to throw on the horse.

If it's a nice horse, I'd definitely get one made.
If it's a reputable shop, you won't lose money on it.
