Hungarian Midget Woman
  
Location: Midwest | I will be moving to a new boarding stable that requires helmets. Which brands do you all like? I believe mine is a troxel, but it is old and very hot in the summer. Also, I'd prefer not to spend a boatload of money. I'm looking for light and cool in the summer :) |

Location: The South | I have a Troxel Intrepid model and I love it. It's really low profile and it has a cute design on the side. I don't know how well it breathes yet as I haven't worn it since the weather turned warm, but it has vents so hopefully it won't get too hot. |

| I have a Tipperary sportage as well. I like it fit and comfort wise...but the liner is already starting to get funky and peel. It runs my forehead so I have to wear a bandana. Not the end of the world, but I will look for one with a replaceable liner next time

Are they cool in the summer? Also, do they run the same as your hat size in a western hat? (Ex. I wear a 6 7/8 western hat, would I go off of that size for this brand and order a Medium?) |

I have a Dover Saddlery store that is a 2 hour drive... I also have a few smaller tack stores a little closer that may have some schooling helemts in stock.

My last one was a higher end troxel, but it was a "show" model and has no air vents. Plus it is over ten years old, so I'm sure I need a new one. I figure if I am going to wear one, it should at least do the job of protecting my head. lol |

Location: Oklahoma | Ovations are a great helmet for the price. Troxels are uncomfortable to most head shapes except round. I used to work for a tack store and we carried many brands. I would recommend having someone knowledeagle in helmets fit your head to ensure a proper fit. I personally ride in Charles Owens and GPA Speed Air Evolutions. |

Charles Owens and GPA's are awesome, but I'm not shellin out that much cash LOL
If I still jumped, that's probably what I would buy though, especially if I were showing. But for just schooling, I'm trying to stay on the cheaper side.
My old troxel (from 15 years ago) did make me look silly, so I hope there are lower profile options out there now. But seems like there are, thank goodness. |

| I have a Troxel Cheyenne and it's ok. It breathes well, but it's kind of bulky. I have a couple of friends with Tipperary helmets and they love them. Less bulk and they breathed well. They bought them for Iowa summer girl scout camp riding, so it was definitely hot when they were wearing them and they had no complaints! |

The newer troxels are more low profile, but there is a hard plastic shell that sits against your forehead. For comfort, look seriously at the ovations. They have different models but all fit and feel like the Charles Owens/GPA's. Plus, they have a removeable washable liner and the easy fit dial system. I also grew up riding hunter/jumper hence my love for the helmets I have... |

I did too....I always wanted a GPA (LOL) I will check out the ovations. The more I look at them all, the more I would like to try something before buying. I have a month (I'm moving in July), so hopefully I can find a day and a place to try several. My head is kind of odd-shaped... and small.... lol

Location: Soon where I want to be:) | Love my GPA got it when I was jumping and i keep wearing it now. But it does get pretty hot in Texas summer might also need to look for something with more vents for the summer months. |

I don't like Troxel but that's only because they don't fit my individual head. Every one I've tried has hurt.
Everyone's head is shaped different.

| Ovations are good because they have a dial in the back, so they fit my big head.
But they get SO hot! I get really sweaty and gross when I wear my helmet. |

| I'll chime back in since the dial fits have come up...
Hate them. Have had 2 helmets with them and they both broke very quickly from regular use. I don't feel like that's going to do a very good job of protecting my head...some people like them, but I would try to stay away if you can find something else that fits |
