Any ideas why? Teeth & worming UTD. Was on free choice oat and 4-5 good flakes of 3rd cutting alfalfa. 14/8 performance grain with prebiotics in it at recommended amount. He's a 20 yr old Ottb who's been used hard his whole life. He's slick but has a ton of long guard hairs not sloughing off. Looks like he's molting.

They will come off eventually. I have a few that shed like that. They really like to hold on to them around their belly and chin.

Has he been checked for Cushings?

If he's in the clear there, what about ulcers? My mare had a rough, non-shedding guard hairs when she had ulcers. This spring, no unshedding guard hairs after the ulcers have been treated.
