My 4 year old is a PITA. I have sold him and ended up with him again after about 10 months away from home. He's a sweet boy to me and let's me do anything to him but gets very nervous when new strangers are around (not aggressive just edgy). I have been trying to sell him because it was never my intention to keep him when I bought his mom. He was a 5 month untouched foal at her side that I have done a lot of work with. I am at a loss here because I don't know what to do with him. He's not my "type" of horse but it seems that he has chosen me and only me so I'm stumped.

Yep, I have a friend with a gelding like that. She has sold/given him away several times and he always comes back to her. He is a jerk with everyone else but her. I have told countless times he has chosen her and this time she agrees. Lol:)

Funny part was he was doing well at the other place but finances forced them to give him up, she was taking her time with him for a trail horse. Now that he's back he's bound and determined to not leave I swear. He even does little things with me when people come look at him but he's an angel the rest of the time. He's such a big strong guy he needs to go to a roper or something... He's got the work ethic, heart and strength to pull a bull across a field once he trusts you. He's a big suck otherwise, always friendly until you pull him out with people who come to look at him (he will always come and meet them but it's like he knows). Lol.

Eta: we have no large ranches or ropers in the area. We don't have any shows (roping, etc) or rodeos in the area either.

I have a friend with a horse like that. Shes an ottb mare and every time she tried to give her away she has come back. She gave her to one lady the horse dug trenches pacing. Gave her to another the horse came up lame. I picked her up and she was dead lame, dropped her off at friends barn she trotted sound off trailer. Now shes keeping her and the horse turned out to be an angel.

My gelding is that horse.

I bought him back in 2010 and then had to sell him due to life that same year. I saw him on Craigslist listed for a crazy low price marking him as dangerous.

I guess he would buck and try to put the owners in fences... I went and rode him and he was in pain from not having his teeth floated. I even went on a trail ride with that owner with him in nothing but a halter (I didnt wanna put a bit in his mouth with his painful teeth) and split reins (one of them broke during the ride so it ended up being a halter and one rein) he was perfect for me. No buck, nothing. Got his teeth floated, took him home. Lol. I remember when I came the first day to see me he nickered and licked my face... Like full on licked my face >.<

He is now in barrel training. When I sold him he was green broke. When I got him back this February he hated to back up, kinda neck reined... just green still. I've been getting lessons on him and other horses and he now is doing a loping barrel pattern, can back up a whole arena with minimal effort on my part, is in shape, feeling good, trails nice... I can't wait to see what he does when we haul!

He will never be sold again.

As for the bucking... he has never tried to really buck or put me in a fence. He crow hops in defiance, but he's been getting a butt whooping for it so he hasn't done that in a while... Crow hopping = hard work... :P

I tried to hire someone to ride him for me when I couldn't... that didn't work out so well. He misbehaves so bad if I'm not there >.< He is definitely my horse and my horse only lol.

It is easy to say "never", but the fact is that nobody knows what the future may hold.  There are any number of reasons an individual may have to part with a horse.  Often times those situations are cannot be controlled.  Being a "one person horse" sets a horse up for failure and a potentially unpleasant future.  For these reasons I would certainly suggest that every effort be made to rectify this issue.  It is always in an animals best interest to make sure they are as valuable and marketable as possible -- even if you never PLAN to part with them.
