cleaning pads

Any one have some good advise or tips for cleaning saddle pads. I have a really nice 1" felt pad that is starting to get dirty from sweat and hair and I have a one of those high dollar Professional Choice pads that I really like but it has gotten really matted down and stiff. I'm afraid to soap and water them for fear of ruining them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I pressure wash my 5 star pads. No soap, just water.

take them out to the washrack and put them bottom side up. Pressure spray liberally. For the PC pad if it isn't felt bottom you can take a "tiny" dab of horse safe shampoo
(if you want
) and a medium stiff horse brush and "wax on wax off." Then pressure spray again until the water runs clear. Hang both of them bottom side up in the sun to dry. The felt should be fine after just a pressure spray and hang dry...the PC pad you can take a curry to and lightly agitate until the fuzz comes up again. Don't curry so hard that you start to pull the wool out. LOL

As the others said, you can take them to a car wash and pressure wash the pads there, BUT NO SOAP, LOL just water only, soap might stay in the pad and then bother your horse when they get sweaty, so best to stay away from it.

I've washed a couple of 5star pads with my carpet cleaner
(no soap
) when the sponge just wouldn't cut it anymore. It worked really well. The stuff it pulled out was pretty disgusting

I've heard you never want to dry the pad "inside out" and that you hang it like normal to dry otherwise you ruin the spine of the pad.

I dry it on a saddle stand, with a fan on it. Still takes a while, but holds shape.
