Location: Texas | Ok, I have a real problem with people that say they are tried and true barrel racers and never step foot in an arena. It is easy to coach from the couch or behind a desk all day and talk the talk but by gosh get your A$$ out there and prove yourself instead of latching onto what others say. Ok, my pet peeve vent is over, is this anyone elses pet peeve?

| Ugh this bothers me to no end!!! Around here we call them "buckle bunnies". To me it's not just the people that never step foot in an arena and couch coach but also those that claim to be the best and win a bunch but they go to maybe one event a year and don't do well at all. I'm all for people going out there and trying and wanting to barrel race and most of those people are getting lessons, working with trainers ect. I applaud those that are trying to improve. But pet peeve, don't claim to be something your not. |

Location: Oklahoma | Thats a pet peeve for me with a lot of things. Not just barrel racing. People who want attention and talk a big talk about things they really have no experience with. I laugh my butt off every time we do CLEET requals and all the guys start talking guns like they are bad as***......and then you watch them shoot. lmao. |

Location: Texas | I totally agree then when you are trying to buy a horse and they really talk their horse up. Oh, they are great set an arena record (evidently setting an arena record at your own house with no one else there). But, when you ask where they have been with their horse they start referring you to others that have the same bloodline. Listen lady if you have a 15 year old horse that has never been off your place because you are too scared to go run it what the heck makes you think you have anything that I WANT TO TAKE OFF YOUR PLACE. You go let that sucker shine for while and then we might consider your 15 year old green horse. PLEASE |

| I had a student that kept telling me how good HE was and how good his horse was so I told him to come on out and we could separate the boys from the girls. He never mentioned it again. |

I've noticed that with a lot of people, it stems from their own feelings of inadequacy.
I'm a 1-3D (mostly 3) rider depending on the competition and day LOL! ... trying to improve, but for me this is a hobby and I don't claim to be something I'm not. :) However, when people boast, I usually notice it is because they lack confidence in who they are.
If they are doing it selling horses, then that is a whole 'nother bag of cats |

It doesn't really bother me when people talk...until they are talking nonsense when selling horses. What bothers me is that they are probably going to end up taking advantage of someone that is a novice and doesn't know any better. Claiming that you are something you aren't is one thing, but making these ridiculous claims about a horse that is for sale does bother me. Honestly though, I think that these people really are delusional and truly believe everything they say. It's kind of scary how people can fool themselves into believing they are something they aren't. |

Location: Texas | Oh I do smile and for sure shake my head. I am a barrel racer am I a 1D winner NO. I am a winner because I go in the arena and give my best each time I enter. However, I do not talk the talk of a barrel racer and not put in my time. You have to put in the time if you are a 2D or a 5D just as in any sport. But, do not sit behind a desk and tell anyone how to do it if your self proclaimed and just own a horse that you ride in a pa
sture and never actually run barrels. Be proud that you own a horse and you trail ride there is nothing wrong with that. I guess what I am trying to say is do not speak the words that you cant live up to and please do not waste other peoples time that actually do want to go somewhere to come look at your trail horse. |

I've ran up there with the best of them, and the worst of them. I've won my fair share, lost my fair share, have trained many 1D horses......and yet I tell everybody I suck. Because I still feel like I'm never good enough and always want to get better. But also because if I suck then ppl stop asking me to ride their horses :) |
