| I have a horse that has a tattoo on his lip and I'm wanting find out what his registered name is. The problem is, the letter is faded and I cannot tell what it is. I have the numbers, it's just that one letter I don't know. I have called AQHA but I haven't made any progress with them. What do you guys suggest that I do? |

| Take a picture of the tattoo and post it on here. Maybe an experience eye can help determine what the letter is.

| That has to be a C, G, O, or Q. Right? Did you try those with AQHA? |

Yes I tried all those. That what confuses me because it has to be one of those letters. |

Looks like "G" to me. It's broken on the right side so it couldn't be a "C". Is the 537? is this the full number? |

No I didn't get the full number in the picture. 3537 is the full number. I wish there was a website where I could just type in the number and try different letters to see if I would find anything. |

I have a friend who does tattoos, let me see if I can get ahold of him and what he thinks you can do find out about your horse. Do you know what breed he is for sure? |

Yes he is definitely a quarter horse. He is supposedly a son of Mr Jess Perry. |

| I think the 99's were U, so to be 10-12 years old he should have an X, Y, or Z. Do they still do the last digit by the year? Only one problem, that doesn't look like any of those. Does appendix have a different set of numbers? Im sure JC does.

Location: North Central South Dakota, west of the Might Mo | I think 2003 was "G"...if I'm correct, that would put your horse at 11...so maybe that last letter is G?
I will see if I can double check if 2003 was indeed "G". I know it was in the Jockey Club registration system.
Good luck,

| This horse is for sure not JC registered, but...I do now know how to look up tattoo's with the Jockey Club. |

Location: North Central South Dakota, west of the Might Mo | Whiteboy, I should know this as our family has run QH for nearly 75 years...but don't. Does AQHA use the same year-number system Jockey Club does? If they do, then G would probably equal 2003...I have looked and looked through everything from AQHA we have and don't find where there are corresponding years and letters in tattoos.
We are also Red Angus breeders and the Jockey Club tattoo year system does not correspond with the universal year-tattoo (for example K=2000) system in cattle registration.
Thank you,
BHR |

| I'm pretty sure they are not on the same schedule with the letters as the Jockey Club. However I think it is the same idea, to rotate up a letter each year for the 5th character, after the letters they went to numbers and should now be back to "A"...maybe. |
