I ride out almost everyday. Im very fortunate in that I live a great part of Idaho and have access to tons of open fields and dirt roads in the country. Im a big believer in hills. I dont have any specific time that I do any specific exercise. I usually ride 30minutes to 2 hours per horse. As far as my colts go, I pony them with me with a saddle on and carrying a bit in their mouth. I rarely do arena work or practice. I feel once a colt is under control in an arena, we can ride out with a buddy. I have a couple exercises I do out in the fields to help keep my seasoned horses tuned up and teach my colts the skills they need to run the pattern. I alternate a day of hills with days of flat long trotting and circle work in the fields. On days I cant ride, they are turned out in a big pasture so they can burn off any extra energy.

I guess everyone's situation and facility is different....we don't have a walker, but I find turn out time very important for mental and physical health of my horses. When they run around like crazy beasts playing it makes me happy! Weekly routines vary from long trotting, breezing, trail riding & flat work.....my horses are turned out 24/7.
