Location: USA | Ok, how many of y'all own paints? I'm looking at one right now, and he literally has 3 paints on his pedigree - everyone else is QH and TB. He's breeding stock. I hate how he can't be registered with AQHA bc of having 3 "relatives" that were paints. Is it me or do paints just not sell as well? I'm hesitant to buy this guy bc I'm afraid if/when I resell him down the road, the resale value won't be there because he's a paint. He's bred really nice, which may help tip the scales (it is for me), but . . . what are everyone's opinions on paints?

| They sell just fine. Just like most geldings, his resell value will come from his ability and training. If he has neither of those two, he would be a tough sell even if he had AQHA papers. If we were talking about a broodmare I would have answered this differently. |

| I just bought my first paint. She's colored though. I have no problem with breeding stock paints - I don't care if they have purple polka dots if they can win (if I'm looking for a barrel horse) or are safe (if I'm looking for a kids horse). |

| I really dont think it effects resale too much, espicaly on quality broke horses. Ive sold a few paints and they always sold fast. Most people that are competing dont reall care so long as they get to the pay window. (The people I know anyway unless they have huge broodmare plans after showing)
However just like anything some people swear by them others swear at them. |

Location: So. Cali. | I dont think it affects resale. Like anything else, if hes proven and has good lines, then he can be sold.
I have a paint, best teacher Ive ever had. He is out of a racing Quarter horse mare and a Champion Halter Paint Stallion. I believe if I went a few lines back on his Paint size it just goes to all Quarters as well.

Location: Pacific Northwest | We've had two paints...a sorrel tobiano gelding and a solid buckskin mare. The gelding was never for sale but I doubt we would have had a problem considering all of the offers my dad got at rodeos. The mare I just put up for sale and I don't think having APHA papers is going to hurt her. She's very green and the QHs she has aren't great so she isn't a broodmare prospect to begin with haha. The fact that she's such a pretty buckskin actually worries me because I do NOT want people buying her to breed for color...I've had way too many people already ask me why I don't just "keep her and breed her".

Location: Northern CA | I bought a BSP this spring. I am totally not a paint fan, but this horse was by the same sire as two of my others out of a well bred mare that happened to be paint. Can't tell that he is a paint, only downfall is I can't show at the local AQHA. |

Location: North Central Kansas | Never thought I would own a paint horse, but right now I have 2 of them! I don't think that they have a lower resell value or sell for less because they're paints. As someone else mentioned there is paint incentive now that some larger shows are letting you enter in as a sidepot. |

Location: Oklahoma | When I was looking for a horse (just recently) I looked at a couple of paints and I'd say that they were priced right alongside with the quarter horses. The PBRIP sounds like a great opportunity. I won't be actively seeking "paints only" the next time I'm shopping, but I wouldn't shy away from one. |

Granted, he is a yearling & it will be a long while before he will be entered in barrel races, but I'm curious if those incentives are for full reg. (color) paints only, or can solid paint bred earn points/$? |

ALL APHA registered horses foaled prior to January 1, 2013 will be allowed to participate in PBRIP.
ALL FOALS FOALED ON OR AFTER JANUARY 1, 2013 MUST COMPLY WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE.
2. ALL Regular registered horses foaled on or after January 1, 2013 will be allowed to participate in PBRIP.
3. ALL Solid Paint-Bred registered horses foaled on or after January 1, 2013 must have at least one Regular Registry Paint Horse in the first generation and at least one Regular Registry Paint Horse in the second generation OR two Regular Registry Paint Horses in the first generation. |

Location: Tex. Panhandle | Our last 3 have been solid paints. I still have my mare (sorrel w/a blaze) and black (w/a blaze). I sold the palomino to a client from CO. She was in love the minute she rode him. Never would have been able to tell any of the 3 were anything other then QH except when you looked at their papers. I'm actually looking at another 4 yr old thats a paint to. Resell will not be a prob on an of the ones that we have, if we decided to sell. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I have 2 solid paints and absolutely adore them. One is basically a QH with paint papers and the other is about 75% QH lines. I tend to forget they are paints--I think I told the vet they were QHs when he was doing their coggins. LOL |

Location: Wearing a winter coat...... | I bred my mare to Sky High Fame last year and got a beautiful painted up filly. She is not for sale but it is funny that I have had 2 other foals out of her and everyone wants to buy this one. I have had 3 offers on her. So, this being my first APHA breeding ...... I would say that good ones are selling just fine.
